PHOENIX PIP ARNOLD CIVIL DEVENCE B IN CUP MATCH 6/10/2009

Phoenix 593 v 532 arnold civil defence (b)     6/10/2009
Phoenix (home)      arnold cd b
Ryan baker 64 v 42 alan cunningham
Roger giddens 55 v 46 kirk wesselby
Nick oakleigh  81 v 20 pete ellins
David allsopp/n.oakley 70 v 42 a.cunningham/k.wesselby
Phoenix (away)
Gaz birks 42 v 56 s.kelly
Good win for arnold just snatching the frame here  :bravo:
Steve (capt') howard 74 v 27 w.burton
Our captain potted really well taking  colours after the reds he potted to open up a big lead, tho' great safety from bill and found his way out of many snookered positions a big hand from me (steve) bill  :bravo:
Ash goring 62 v 61 a.nichols
Ash for phoenix was at one point 40 points in front, somehow the frame started slipping away from him, much to his disbelief! All credit to arnolds' man for coming right back at him,but as you see,ash held on to only just snatch it (phew)
Unlucky arnold but a great game nonetheless  :welldone:
Howard/lally 25 v 78 kelly/burton
An awkward situation for capt' howard(in the middle of the frame), when the white landed tight on the top cush',and a red ball had been (almost)potted into the yellow baulk pocket, but it hovered over the 'bag' steve attempted to move or better still pot it using another red it failed to,and left arnold in for a 20 break, and from then on wasnt really going to be phoenix' frame (u can't win'em all),and i gallantly accepted defeat along with my doubles partner stephen lally.still phoenix come through on the night, which is at the end of the day,all that really matters.well done to my team win or lose,it was nice playing arnold, and new players
  :bravo:
Thanx to arnold for having played some great frames, with us,i really enjoyed them,
:thx:
Phoenix snatch the overall win !
ps:
note for you steve (butler)
the total scores at top of my match report include the handicaps of both teams 120 (phoenix) & 160 (arnold) cheers!

Yes, well done Steve, good match report from Arnold which I understand was played in good spirits and could have gone either way.
At Eastwood
Frame 1. Ryan against A.C. - scrappy frame - black almost on lip of top right surrounded by 8 or 9 reds - ref offered re-rack but declined by Ryan, how we managed to clear it without fouling the black I'll never know. But Ryan took the frame.
Frame 2 Roger against Kirk - Kirk was 20 + in front but Roger kept chipping away and eventually took all the colours to win by 9
Frame 3 Nick against Pete - Pete found it very hard to keep the white out of the pockets, and Nick easily your best player on the night cleared from the green (25).
Frame 4 Nick & Dave ALLSOP against A.C. & Kirk - couldnt keep Nick quiet and they took the frame 70-42. Would have been larger margin if Dave had potted the pink with the black over the opposite corner bag but A.C. accepted the chance and reduced the deficit..

All in all the match could have gone either way but with us still having to face Beeston I cant see us going much further in the K.O. cup

Sounds a interesting frame in the opener alan! We had a good night over in Arnold.
My frame was a strange one. I had a breaks of 31 and 20, and somehow, almost threw the frame away limping over the line at 63-62 i think. I think a fair 2-2 draw away, but we sneeked a win overall on the points. Well played all

Your opponent at Arnold, Andy NICHOLS was still in Peterborough at 6.30?. And Kirk WESSELBY is a Fire Officer and we had to drag him off his Training Course so we were lucky to even put 6 players together. I think your lads at Eastwood were a little disappointed we didnt have 4 singles but we are really struggling this year - even though we seem to have a lot of players listed - no one seems to be available.
But well played, a good night.

With Ref to Alan "Can't see us going any further in the K.O cup!"

"Come on Alan!"  Mr Captain, you should lead by good positive example with your years of experience!!! Even against a Top team a very generous 240 start,  one or two tight frames can make the world of difference mate! the newly promoted Phoenix arn't a bad side! A great bunch of lads infact!!! Oakleigh lads made it very tricky for us Super Elites, we just managed a to win by 11pts! Very little margin for error despite winning 8-0!

Keep it tight & keep the faith my friend!!! :smokey:

Regards Cpt Kwok Team Bci Super Elites!!!

We had a full 8 players available last night, so 4 at each venue. I dont mind the doubles to be honest, as long as all the boys, opps and niomi, (sorry) get a game. We have potentially 11 players available for selection if required, 8 last night, Niomi who was ill last night, and Anthony and Danny. I do hope u manage to keep your team going, and im sure, as kwok says, cup snooker with your handicap, can change very quickly. Good luck anyway

No doubt we will keep going. Where do you get this 240 handicap from - wish it WAS us, we would have won last night. No, we only get 160, equivalent to 20 per frame and when you come up against the likes of Neil Jones and Clint I'Anson they soon wipe that out. We'll see.

My apologies Alan, you are off 160! Only some of the Top teams was giving 240pts start in some games must of got mixed up! Still a good Handicap Start mate! Look at it this way Beeston are a tough game at the best of times, now imagine playing them without the 160!!! Honestly mate it's not quite that black and white! One frame snooker anything can happen, things don't always go to plan by the top sides, you can make a difference and make it very difficult for them! Balls can go safe making it very tricky to get breaks! Even a bit of luck with the run of balls can make a world of difference in a frame! So Believe and you can achieve! Otherwise you'll make it easy for them and they've won already matey!!! Put up some good resistance & show your great battling qualities, your'll be surprised it'll make the world of difference! Good luck & keep that head up!

Regards Kwok!

Ps: Sorry Beeston Nothing against your great team, just some captains snooker advise from Sir Alex Ferguson management!!!

hi there alan mate,
hope you can keep going alan,it seems like one or two teams now are having trouble with players not being able to make matches some weeks, might be worth doing a bit of 'scouting' around for extra players, and then when some of your team can't get,you have 'backup' players to play for you when others can't get!!
sure sounded a strange frame against yourself and our ryan over at eastwood, how on earth did the black get surrounded by so many reds
never mind, tho' i'd have thought in that situation you ought really to have had the 're-rack',but if ryan was in front he was probably thinking of his lead which he may not have got in his 're-racked' game should he have agreed to it.
keep your chin up alan my good friend, and like myself, win or lose,i still love my snooker,it will never ever deter me from playing the game i grew up with,as a wee small boy of 7yrs of age,my dad introduced me to it,and so glad he did!!
regards and best wishes to you alan,
steve howard
(captain-phoenix)
