At Stadium Mapperley could not field a third player so played their 2 singles as normal for points with the 3rd singles and pairs played to make a night of it (this may be wrong, refer to Steve Butler).
Barry Stark didn't really do a thing wrong in the first frame but Chris Wright was in deadly form, not missing one shot to take the frame easily.
Ross Wilkin started the second a frame a little frustrated, missing some long pots and allowing Chris Starr to make some decent points but Wilkin managed to claw back going into the final colours and took the frame on the pink.
In the third frame, despite some good safety from Pete Gormley Chris Wright once again made some key pots along with a 21 break to do enough to take the frame.
All four players in the pairs made a few small breaks to keep the frame score fairly level. Barry Stark, admitting a lack of recent practice, missed a couple of easy pots in the final colours. Par for the course, after a rash double attempt from Wilkin, Chris Wright made sure of the long final black. Shame you didn't have your third player Mapperley, it was a tough one for us!!
Barrk Stark 8-70 Chris Wright
Ross Wilkin 58-45 Chris Starr
Pete Gormley 28-49 Chris Wright
Ross/Barry 57-58 Chris/Chris
At Mapperley:
Stadium 4-0 Mapperley (details to follow)
Yes, Mapperley were very short of players last night but in a demostration of good sportsmanship the two Chris's stayed at Stadium to ensure that all four frames were played, even though the 3rd and 4th frames were effectively conceded.
At Mapperley, Bob Walker made a 31 break on the way to a good win against Raj Landa. Daniel Di Folco struggled against Andy Carnell and was behind for the whole frame but he came good at the end potting blue, pink and black to steal it. Steve Butler also struggled against Tony Vocaturo but he managed to clear the colours at the end of the frame to make himself look good. Di Folco and Walker then beat Landa and Carnell to cap a good 4-0 away win.
Good luck to Mapperley in the Division 1 Cup Final on 27 April when they will hopefully have all their players available.
Nice win,Steve and 'the boys' well played, but im sure the final scoreline doesn't do justice to Mapperley,as i know their a great bunch of lads, and i'm sure the frames were a little closer than what the score suggests,i think . . .
Unlucky to the lads at Mapperley, great team full of spirit and determination that lot, they'll be back i know they will . . .
Well played to both teams anyway . . .
