Title: Proposed rule changes
Post by: Steve Butler on 26 July 2007
If you have any ideas for rule changes / new formats etc. please post them here.

The AGM will be held on 13 September 2007 at Lenton Liberal Club. It is important that any proposals are received by the end of July so that there is plenty of time for everyone to consider them prior to voting on them at the AGM.
Title: One team only to be promoted / relegated
Post by: Steve Butler on 26 July 2007
Proposed by Alan Cunningham (Arnold Civil Defence)

Alan proposes that instead of the current 2 teams promoted and relegated that just 1 team is promoted or relegated.
Title: Scrap handicaps in KO Cup and Plate
Post by: Steve Butler on 26 July 2007
Proposed by Alan Cunningham (Arnold Civil Defence)

In knockout and plate competitions, personal handicaps should be scrapped. This is because teams are already being handicapped in these competitions and individual player handicaps are therefore not necessary and serve to over-penalise certain teams.

Individual player handicaps would therefore only apply in singles and pairs competitions.

NOTE: This excludes main tour professionals (eg. Michael Holt) who would still be required to give 30 start in the league and 50 start in Knockout Cup and Plate.
Title: New Divisions and Team Handicaps
Post by: Steve Butler on 26 July 2007
Proposed by Alan Cunningham (Arnold Civil Defence)

Alan proposes that season 2007/8 divisions should be as below. He also proposes that team handicaps (for KO Cup & Plate only) be fixed throughout the season as per the figure in brackets:

Division 1

Arnold A (0)
Pegasus (80)
Lenton (80)
Sherwood (80)
Hillcrest (80)
Cotgrave (120)
BCI (120)
Stadium (120)

Division 2

Arnold B (160)
West Bridgford (160)
Wollaton (200)
Oakleigh (200)
City Hospital (200)
Mapperley (200)
Title: League match format
Post by: Steve Butler on 26 July 2007
Proposed by Alan Cunningham (Arnold Civil Defence)

For the season just ended we played a new format of 3 singles game and 1 pairs game home and away. Overall this new format was a success and enabled teams of 6 players to continue in the league.

For season 2007/8 it is proposed that IF there are enough players present AND at both Captain's discretion, teams can elect to play 4 singles games at each venue instead.
Title: Handicaps for cup and plate
Post by: Mike Langdon on 26 July 2007
I'm glad to see handicaps have come down a little this season as i felt last season we at Pegasus were handicapped out of the comp. I think when we played Stadium each player needed to win their frame by 30 odd points which was to big an ask.

Regarding the proposed handicaps for this season I'm probably gonna shoot ourselves in the foot here but I'm not sure that there is an 80 point gap in quality between us and Arnold CD.  Last season against arnold over the three league matches 1 win, 1 draw and a loss.

Cheers
Mike Langdon (Pegasus)
Title: Handicaps
Post by: Steve Butler on 26 July 2007
Mike,

Don't forget that these are just proposals at the moment that need to be voted on at the AGM.  If you are in favour of Alan's revised handicaps it would help if you and another player from Pegasus attended the AGM, as each club is allowed 2 votes.

I have just been told by Dennis (Secretary) that Cotgrave are entering a "B" team next season and we may also get some extra teams entering as well so we will no doubt have to revise the handicaps again prior to the AGM.

What I will do is gather everyone's proposals together for the next meeting in August.  Everyone can then discuss which ones will be formally voted on at the AGM.

Welcome to the forum!  :)
Title: Handicaps in pairs competition
Post by: Steve Butler on 26 July 2007
Proposed by Alan Cunningham (Arnold Civil Defence)

Alan proposes that in the pairs competition the individual player handicaps are halved to take into account the fact that each player only plays one shot in four.

Example:

Chris Winter (30 hcp) partners Malc Belshaw (0 hcp).  This pairing will give their opponents 15 start (30/2).
Title: Separate Singles & Singles Handicap competitions
Post by: Steve Butler on 26 July 2007
Proposed by Steve Butler (Stadium Leisure)

I propose that a new singles competition be created separate to the current handicapped singles competition.  All players will play off scratch regardless of ability.  Main tour pros will not be allowed to enter.  Thus, for the season 2007/8 season there will be the following competitions:

League
KO Cup
Plate
Singles
Singles Handicap
Pairs Handicap

Players can choose which of the singles competitions they want to enter.  They can enter both if they so wish.
Title: Handicaps
Post by: Steve Butler on 26 July 2007
Proposed by Steve Butler (Stadium Leisure):

For the 2007/8 season I propose that a handicap committee be formed consisting of 3 people.  The committee will allocate handicaps to all players who enter the singles and pairs handicap competitions.  Handicaps will be allocated after receipt of all entries and prior to the first round draws being made.  Handicaps will remain the same throughout the season and only be revised at the start of the following season.  The decision of the handicap committee would be final.

I believe that this system would be fairer to all players and would eradicate the situation where a very good player comes up against a good player and finds himself conceding 30 points which is too many points for such a small difference in ability.

An example list, based on past ability and performance in the 2006/7 seasons competitions, may be as follows:

Scratch

Sean Bowers
Chris Brooks
Tony Hart
Bash Maqsood
Andy Spiers
