John Smith's Notts Amateur Snooker Championship

Dave Joblin 0 Bash Maqsood 3 (Breaks ; Bash 56 & 59)

I'm not blowing my own trumpet here but am trying to be as independent as possible, if i am occasionally blowing my own trumpet then please don't take offence as i was really proud of my performance tonight.

Well what can i say, this was always going to be a tough game against my good old buddy and doubles partner. I drove up to newark to play at Dave's place. It was a match table with match templates, tight and fast.

We agreed to play the miss rule and both agreed to limit it to 3 attempts as in the pego comps.

Frame 1 -  I never got a look in with some excellent safety from Dave. He pinched his way to a 52 point lead and went in off a great thin cut on the black. that would have put him 59 up with 5 reds left (67 left) and well in the driving seat for the first frame. So Dave was 52 ahead with 5 reds left and I had white in hand. I really did play an excellent Safety shot and snookered dave on all reds, but still knew I have a mountain to climb. Dave failed to get out of it on the first attempt and then was 48 points and left me the choice of a tricky red or play him again. I really thought if playing him again then he may leave it safe so i decided to take on the red. I pot red and clear the table, need up to the pink, with a break of 56 which i was really proud of as i was under pressure and had to clear. had to develop the blue off the yellow along the way. well done Bash, give yourself a pat on the back  for going 1-0 up.

Frame 2 - This was nip and took in the early part with some cracking safety from both of us. I built p about a 10 point lead and dave left me half a chance on a red , which i potted and from the position of the balls i made a fantastic break of 59 which was real hard work and secured the frame to go 2-0 up.

Frame 3 - This went a little scrappy and was all about pinching what you can and running up to your mummy (baulk end) for cover. dave got first chance and was on a 25 break and was very unlucky to snooker himself on all colours. The black was the only ball he could hit off the back cushion. Amazingly he misjudged hitting it 3 time and gave me 21 points in fouls, so his break of 25 didn't have much effect for him. From then on i got a half chance and made a most valuable 18 break to the green with dave now needing snookers. Dave tried for a while but soon I potted colours to secure a well earned 3-0 win.

really bad luck, as chris brooks said, it's hard playing your mates and unfortunately there has to be a loser. As a true gent, he wished me all the best in the competition.

Naturally, I was happy to have won and in success or failure always praise the Lord - hallelujah !

I wonder who i will have next,

could it be brooksie, could it be bettridge, we will have to wait and see.........
when i get older what will i be...........
could it be martin or could it be starky.........we'll just have to wait and see
it could also be juddy or could it be chester..........we'll have to wit and see
........la la lal ......la la lal le

.........come on all, join the chorus.........We'll have to wait and see......

Cheers all

Bash

p.s Nav, whats this i been hearing about you cancelling with keith and giving him "7 minutes" notice !! I didn't know you were like that matey!!! That's bang out of order.  If anyone done that to me it will defo be a call to claims direct !! I would also chop their balls off next time i see them with the stanley knife i use when retipping my cue. At this stage of the league, Keith being a gent, been too nice to you. You must have had a really, really good reason !!!! can you share it with us all please, i really want to hear it - i hope you not been busy in the Mujahedeen training camp !!

Well, here is the situation.... ready for the match as agreed with Keith. Waiting for misses to return and never does, so offered the match to Keith as that was the only right thing to do. But Keith asked Steve if we could p  :laugh:lay the match next week, which Steve said was ok. Keith is a top man and rearranged the match for the following week. Over the past 3_4 years I been playing in the league, always have given 100% and attend every match and none of them are fixed

Cheers Waynee, your a gentleman and a scholar. Cheers Sean as well.
I didn't poke his eye Sean, I just said to Dave if he beats me then I won't be partnering him next season ! Only realised afterwards that that gave him more of an incentive to win and he put added pressure on himself. Amazing how just a few words can do the trick !
