Charity Shield 2009
Nazareth House Snooker League kicked off the season in style as they claimed the Charity Challenge Shield with victory over Nottingham & Notts Institutes Association Snooker League at BCI Snooker Centre.NHSL Chairman Pete Gormley gave his team an early lead with a win over NNIA Chairman Pete Trout. NHSL Secretary Steve Butler then put his team 2-0 up with a win over NNIA Secretary Bob Wright. NHSL Tournament Secretary Mike Langdon then lived up to his reputation as the luckiest player in Nottingham with a victory over NNIA Treasurer James Robinson that included an audacious double on the frame ball pink.

Jonathan Mason (NNIA)Toby Irons then started the NNIA revival with victory over Sean Croft and Wayne Martin reduced the deficit to one frame with an impressive win over Zeb Ahmed. The match was soon level at 3-3 as Danny Castel-Nuovo suffered a rare defeat at the hands of Jonathan Mason.

Jordan Parnham (NHSL)Jordan Parnham put the NHSL team back in front with a good win over his 6 reds team-mate Shaun Parkinson but the NNIA team were quickly back on level terms thanks to Daz Clarke's black ball victory over Nav Hussain.

Daz Clarke (NNIA)With the match level at 4-4 there was everything to play for as Stephen Lally took on Paul Bell. Lally is not used to losing nowadays and he romped to victory in no time to put the NHSL team 5-4 up.

Kwok Yip (NNIA)Nazareth House Snooker League needed just one more frame for victory but Ant McMahon would need to be at his best if he was to defeat Kwok Yip on his home table. McMahon has been in fine form since making the switch from Cotgrave to Beeston and Yip was no match for him as he secured the match for the NHSL team.

Ant McMahon (NHSL)NNIA were a player short so Paul Bell took on Malc Belshaw in the final frame of the evening. The frame included some delightful safety play from both players but it was Bell who came out on top as the match finished 6-5 in favour of the NHSL.

Paul Bell (NNIA)It was another enjoyable meeting between the two leagues who between them raised a total of £85 for charity. A huge thanks to all the players who took part and the staff and members of BCI Snooker Centre for their support and generosity.

:bravo:
Congratulation to NHSL on winning the Charity Sheild. A good night of fun and laughs. Nice to meet all the NHSL lads again. The frame of the night must be Mike Langdon v James Robinson. A "fluked" pink by Mike won the frame, and the match for NHSL. Shot of trhe night by Paul Bell. In an almost impossible snooker on the green ball he played a full table escape and hit the green and left it safe. He then went on to win the frame. A terrific £85 for a charity is what it was all about. Thanks to BCI for a good night.
Good night, thanks to BCI for hosting the event.
I would like to nominate another Paul Bell effort for shot of the night.
Snookered behind the green , on its spot, the cue ball came off four cushions, through 8 spread reds missing them all, back through baulk missing the three baulk colours and finallly landing on a red on the cushion level with the pink spot , after hitting 7 cushions in total and travelling at least 30 ft. Quality.
really enjoyable night...thanks Steve, Bob and BCI Snooker Club for putting on the event once again.
I think my reputation has blinded everyone's eyes to what was a quality double on the pink to win the match!!!
Well played to both leagues and here's to an exciting and succesful 2009/10 season.
Mike
what a good night fully enjoyed it can't wait intill the next one thumbs up to all
i will defend you mike was a quality double and you deserved to win   .
still was a good night we all had fun and that is what counts.
so a clap of hands to everyone that turned up :bravo: :bravo: :bravo: :bravo:
perhaps it was a fluke after all....had exactly the same double last night at Wollaton, also on the pink but i missed this one and stuck it up and lost the frame....I blame Danny Castel-Nuovo (the guys a legend when it comes to doubles, trebles, quads, flukes basically). I hardly ever used to play them until i started playing him....now i can't seem to stop. difference is he wins frames with em and i tend to lose.
must get back to my normal conservative game.
Remember mate if Masters goes your more than welcome up the road.
Cheers
Mike

Careful Mike, you're in danger of becoming the Hugh Hefner of snooker!
