Chris Piech 2-1 Scott Bates (01/01/08)
Scott Bates (61)
Scott Bates was left frustrated as he lost out on a place in the last 16 in the final frame when going in-off on the black against his fellow Pegasus team mate Chris Piech in a good quality last 32 encounter. Chris Piech knocked in a 35 break to help him win the first frame but Scott bounced back in the second in fine style with a superb frame winning 61 break that could have been more but he was unfortunate to leave himself an awkward green with a possible 85 clearance looking a real possibility. The final frame went all the way to the black which Scott potted brilliantly along the cushion but his joy was short lived as the cue ball bounced off the cushion and slowly rolled into the opposite pocket to send a relieved Chris Piech into the last 16.

What a break from Scott! I didn't realise he was that good - what is his highest break?
Sounds like a quality match with a cracking finish. I bet Scott was gutted to come so close, particularly after making a break like that! :'(
Neither did we although we all know when he gets his eye in he can be very good he just really struggles for any sort of consistency. I think he has had a break higher than that but not much more (68 i think) and certainly not in a competitive match. I got to the table when he was on 31 and from then on it was superb especially the cannon he played to release 2 reds that were stuck to the pink. Obviously a bitter sweet night for him though. Great to see him right up there on the high break list which he'll milk to the max you can be sure.
Cheers
