Title: Handicap Pairs: Howard/Goring 2-0 Prime/Walker (14/10/09)
Post by: Steve Howard on 15 October 2009
Phoenix doubles partners,Steve Howard & Ash Goring, took on two new players from newly joined div 2 side 'nottingham university'. The match, due to start at 8pm,was delayed due to one of the uni' players having a little difficulty finding the home venue at eastwood.not a problem tho' as he eventually found his way,and the match got under way, nearer 9pm.

The phoenix pair kept things tight waiting for an error from the start,it came, and probably shoulda' made more from the chance, but for the black ball being tied up surrounded by reds, meant it was out of commission for quite a while.

This first frame didn't contain any high breaks, but lots of tactical safety shots and a few snookers.phoenix ran away with the frame convincingly with a 60 point lead

1-0 to phoenix

Frame 2,contained mini breaks of 16's and 14's etc enough to build another big lead, but towards the end there was only 15 points in it,it looked like notts uni's pairing of dale prime & chris walker were gonna mount a comeback to draw level at 1 each.howard & goring had other ideas and boldly started potting the remaining few reds and colours, with, most notably a 'cracking' long range yellow from steve howard, just off it's spot into the top right corner, which thundered in to leave perfect position on the green,as intended.he potted the brown too,and after a few attempts at the blue from both pairs, ash goring potted blue, pink and black to record a 2-0 win for the phoenix pair!

Enjoyable evening at the eastwood venue, with lots of friendly humourous banter, & 'one liners' all thrown in for good measure, the evening had everything.so,thanx to dale and chris, unlucky on the night, but we all had a great laugh, and really enjoyed meeting and playing you.  :bravo:

Fair summary Steve. Good match throughout to be honest, and 2 lads who look very enthusiastic about the game. I think like me, Dale has more of a pool background, but also enjoys his snooker. I think we managed to stick to a tight safety game, which in turn forced errors, therefore giving us opportunities to score frequently. unlucky to the uni lads, Im sure you will keep your great league form up.

YEH ! I THOUGHT IT WAS A FAIR SUMMARY TOO ASH,WE BOTH ENJOYED PLAYING BOTH DALE &CHRIS,AS YOU SAY,DALE HAS MORE OF A POOL BACKGROUND,HENCE THE DOUBLES HE KEPT TAKING ON.BUT WE BOTH STUCK TO A SAFETY APPROACH,TO FORCE ERRORS,THIS PAID OFF,AND ENABLED US BOTH TO HAVE SCORING CHANCES.THEY WERE CERTAINLY 'KEEN' TO PLAY THE SNOOKER,IT SHOWED,HOPE THEY CONTINUE DOING WELL IN DIV' 2,THEY'VE HAD 3 OUT OF 3 IMPRESSIVE WINS TO DATE! AND SO . . .
THE 'DREAM DUO' MARCH ON TO ROUND 2 . . .WATCH THIS SPACE!!!
