Title: Fixture Switching.
Post by: Daniel on 07 November 2009
Am I the only player having difficulty with players who keep asking to change dates or times for singles matches at short notice?

Last Tuesday I elected not to play for Pegasus B as I had to play a further 2 matches that week and had already played Sunday and Monday.  Subsequently both players wanted to change either the time or date at short notice.

No problem, I hear you shout.  Just play them at a later day or time.  The trouble is, I have planned my life AROUND my fixtures which were arranged weeks ago.  Now I have to fit 2 more matches in around several matches and my 10 hour a day job.  I'm due some serious ear bashing next week from my other half (if she even sees me).  Maybe she won't recognise me by then so I may get away with this one.

I'm not suggesting there should be no scope for re-arranging matches as we all have unexpected 'stuff'.  However, surely it is only fair to think carefully before agreeing a date.  'I have to hand in an essay', or 'It's my Birthday', are surely things we know more than 48 hours before a match.

Oh no, I'm starting to sound like Victor Meldrew on the forum AND at work now.

Alright mate.  sorry to hear about that and presume it was this weeks fixture against Jordan that was postponed late.  I would say on Jordan's behalf that since he's played in the league he has completed all his fixtures and to my knowledge this is his first late postponement.

I know it's annoying when it does happen but in my experience it's quite rare so don't get to downbeat.

Cheers

Mike

I agree. What is the point in arranging matches four weeks in advance for them to be cancelled on the day.

I understand that there are more important things in life, but a little consideration would be welcome.

Thanks for the replies.

I think you are probably right, Mike.  I may have been unlucky. Jordan postponed the original Thursday but then also asked to change the time on the rescheduled date and I had planned my weekend by then.  To be fair he only wanted to move the match a couple of hours.  However, it is hard, when you are busy, to make yourself available on three seperate dates to accommodate one opponent.  I also had a match cancelled late Sunday too so still I have to squeeze a good few matches into 2 weeks.  I will call you later today as one of my matches is at home to a Nottm Uni player so I may try to squeeze it in Tuesday night as we are playing them anyway.

I don't want to start sounding  like Meldrew (or 'The Force'), there is a positive side to this.  Playing that many matches is great if I can fit them in.  I prefer it to being short of opponents.

If it wasn't bonfire night, I would of been happy to play on the scheduled date. As for the second re-schedule, that was completely my fault and I apologise for that. I wouldn't normally change the scheduled time and date, but like yourself Daniel, and us all, ive also had things pop up that I can't get out of. From now on, I'm quite sure I'll be playing all my matches on thursday nights to avoid any confusion.

Don't worry Jordan, it's cool mate.  You contacted me to let me know which is what you are supposed to do if you can't make it.

The other match was cancelled for something that my opponent must have known about days ago but didn't let me know until I got in touch the day before the match.  It was just bad luck we had to rearrange our game too.

We'll have a good game Thursday still.  Looking forward to it.
