Pegasus 'A' had a consolation win over Beeston in the First ever Divisional cup match.
Beeston were drawn at home and had the four legs to play with 3 singles legs being played at Pegasus.
The match proved to be a lot closer than the scoreline suggests with the doubles not being played at Beeston once the result was known.
Pegasus:
Chris Brooks (-14) v Tom Walters (Scr)
Walters came out on top in this match beating Brooks with some good match play.
Jamie Mathers (Scr) v Chris Hodgkinson (21)
Mathers pulled this important frame back for Pegasus whilst giving a large handicap away to the talented Hodgkinson.
Danny Castel-Nuovo (7) v Johnny Kareer (14)
This went down to the black with Castel-Nuovo taking the victory over the dangerous Kareer.
Pegasus winning 2-1 at home.
Beeston:
Ant McMahon (7) v Zeb Ahmed (Scr)
Ahmed playing stongly here with a well taken 34 break that put him ahead in the game. McMahon came back though and forced this down to the wire before presenting Ahmed with an easy pink to win.
Andy Spicer (14) v Wayne Martin (Scr)
Another tight frame that took nearly an hour to complete with both players showing some great tactics.
It was Martin who won the frame with an easy blue to put Pegasus into the next round of the cup.
Neil Jones (7) v Nav Hussain (-7)
As the match result was already determined these two players played the match off scratch.
Hussain was ahead all of the way with some uncharateristic misses from Jones.
Jones however potted some great colours to take this to the black before going in off to gift Hussain the frame.
Doubles - N/A
A great match - very close at Beeston - love the new format of individual handicaps.
Yes, an imporant victory for us, first time we have had the right team all season. Most of the time we had some main players missing and never had the main squad, but it seemed to have paid off tonight. Beeston were missing Clint, who could have changed things around if he were playing.
Anywayzzz, we are through to th next round :bravo:
Well done Pegasus. I'm glad you enjoyed the new format. Beeston are in the final of one cup already so it would just be pure greedy if they had made the final of this one too!
:welldone: :bravo: :welldone:
Looks like I can retire the cue then!
Mr Booth, talented player like you cannot just put the cue away.... you are one of the main players for the team. Your average records speaks for itself, havent lost many. I cant remember last time Jamie and Brooks played on the same night, but this time they both played.
Results! Results!! And Even More Results!!! Must be the "Cup of Life!"
A Great win for team Pegasus as their qualites finally showed over a tough and impressive quality Beeston team!!!
Well done guys :welldone: :bravo:
Plus: No retirement for Super Man ;)
Good win last night Wayne for Pegasus.
Could have done with Clint being there but he was'nt very well.
I'm hoping he will be available for next Tuesday's cup final against the GREAT BCI ELITES.
It could decide if we exchange hands or retain the cup.
Ps i've got to agree with you regarding the new handicap format i also like it.
regards
Ant.................
Well played! I had a feeling you might go through :welldone: :bravo:
James, you were seriously unlucky not to be in the side. There's only about 10 players in the league with a better average than you. I understand how you feel. I was replaced by 2 players who only got 11 points between them last week. The difference is that you're playing well though. ;)
I quite like the format too. Much better than the one in the other cup competition, with the team handicaps. It did work against us a little playing a new team with handicaps based on guesswork (Nottm Uni) but I prefer a frame being about a personal battle.
the reason James didn't play was that he was working....simple as that. I think you'll find James was joking about retiring his cue and it was more a comment about Nav's careless post rather than not playing. In fact as you rightly state the averages disagree with Nav's comment anyway and James also has the best average for the team in the pairs...a fine 100% win success. One fact i do know is that all the 1st team players have total respect for each others ability and all understand that if one of them is rested it's not a reflection on them.
I also don't get your point about being replaced by 2 players who only gained 11 points between them last week. 1 was a new player who needed to be tested and since that match he has knocked in a few 40 breaks against Danny C-N and the other was Chris who you've been rotating with all season.
I'm sorry you feel this way Daniel and i'm sure it's frustrating not playing every week but your average of 22% is never going to make you a regular fixture in the team. I have rotated the squad and have arranged 4 singles frames to be played on several occasions to give as many people a game as possible.
On your third point re the new format, yes everyone i've spoken too seemed to enjoy it so hopefully it's a keeper however I don't think the handicaps went against us, to be honest we were just beaten by a better team on the night....the frame scores suggest it was nothing to do with a 7 here or 14 there and i think it's quite disrespectful to Nottm Uni (who are clearly a stronger squad than us) to suggest so.
I'm so grumpy in the morning
Hold on Mike, that's not what I meant...
I did misunderstand James, as I thought he was disappointed to miss the match. When I just re-read it, it is a bit obvious he was joking. Sorry Mike.
I was referring to the Cotgrave match about the scores in the home leg...
"Jamie Sampson 7-67 Phil Foster
Chris Mathers 4-54 Chris King"
I didn't mean that I thought I should be in the side. I thought James missed out and was disappointed and I was trying to empathise. Anyone would see those scores and be a bit disappointed not to have played, but I don't think it was unfair as I have been playing badly.
I hope Robin and Co. don't think I was disrespecting them, as they are cool. I did say a little (not enough to affect the result). You're right of course, they would have beaten us regardless on Tuesday. :sorry:
It's really easy to come across badly on here, if you aren't careful. Thats not the first time I've put my foot in it! I'm not an arse hole really you know. I'm basically a good person.
LOL - Its simple what happened to you guys the other night.
You didn't use "The Force"
To be fair, 'The Force' has carried us in the home leg too many times this season. I think I've lost every time when I've played at home! My record is 50% away! Perhaps if I was wearing ear plugs at home I might have played better.
It's cool mate. You're totally right about things being taken the wrong way when typed out on forums, emails etc. I've many a time written something, read it back and thought oops that don't sound so good.
I always remember in some training course being told the problem with emails is that there is no facial expression involved, therefore no way to gauge how the other person is taking it or even understanding it and for them to see your expression. I guess this is why the smilies were invented but the golden rule is never post anything personal or it can take on a totally different meaning.
Just as well 'The Force' doesn't post on here or he would just about upset everyone with his gob
The Force and a computer - bad mix!!!!! LOL
I have reated an account for him but I guess he is too busy giving Mr Holt lessons - what a life he leads
