Title: Handicap Pairs: Martin/Langdon 0-2 Stark/Brooks
Post by: Mike Langdon on 17 February 2010
Wayne Martin & Mike Langdon (scr)  0-2  Barry Stark & Ray Brooks (-7)
                                                       Barry Stark (65)

The Stadium partnership of Barry Stark & Ray Brooks booked their semi-final spot with a comfortable victory over Pegasus's Wayne Martin & Mike Langdon.  Frame 1 saw a cagey opening with both pairs playing some excellent safety before Barry Stark grasped the moment by pouncing on an error and going on to make a superb frame winning 65 break.  The Pegasus pairing started the 2nd frame well, building up a good 40 odd point lead by simply playing hit and run matchplay.  The Stadium pair came back into the frame and managed to half their arrears before a kind run of the cue ball came to Starks rescue at a crucual moment in the frame.  A rare miss from Stark on the night saw the penultimate red nestle in the jaws of the pocket, but was relieved to see the cue ball come back up the table to hide behind the blue ball.  This left Langdon the only option but to try to roll a tough red down the cushion knowing that if it went in he'd be on the black with a good chance to win the frame.  Langdon got the safety aspect of the shot spot on and managed to cover the other red that was over the pocket by leaving the cue ball shielded behind the black but sadly the intended red didn't drop and was stuck up.  Ray Brooks who had spent half the night playing shots tight of the baulk cushion lept at the chance by sinking red, black, red but missed the next black leaving the Stadium pair requiring a clearance down to the blue to win the match.  Enter the excellent Stark who calmly did just that going one better by clearing down to the pink for a match winning 20 break.

Well played chaps and all the best in your semi-final.  :bravo: :welldone: :bravo:

Sounds like Barry played well.  Good to see at least one Stadium partnership through to the semis.

Unlucky though Mike.

Barry was solid last night - not really a safe place on the table.
A couple of times I thought I had not left him on - sadly he banged one in took his chance.

Good luck to him and Ray in the semi-finals
