Pegasus kept up the pressure on table toppers Arnold Civil Defence ?A? with a good 6-2 win over Cotgrave Welfare. At Pegasus the home leg recorded their sixth four nil victory of the season to lay the foundations of the win. Jamie Mathers and Scott Bates both won their matches comfortably but it was the Pegasus talisman Chris Brooks who really shone for the team. Brooks won his frame by over a hundred points knocking in a 55 break in the process, this was to be his first of four 50+ breaks of the evening with a 69 and two 58 breaks coming later in his 3-1 NHSL singles quarter-final victory over Arnold?s Gary Spencer. A good doubles partnership appears to be forming between Chris Brooks and Jamie Mathers who had no problems in the final frame of the evening. It was a late finish at Cotgrave where several long tactical frames resulted in the last ball being potted at about 10:45pm! Cotgrave won the first frame when Anthony McMahan gained some revenge over Chris Piech winning on the pink after yet another hour-long epic between the two players. Steve Booth had to endure an incredible comeback from John Cyrek before winning his frame. Booth who was leading by some 54 points with only two reds left on the table eventually won with a foul on the pink, Cyrek had amazingly managed to get five snookers and two free balls to pull himself back into the frame before the unfortunate in-off. It was Mike Langdon and Steve Richards who played out the longest match of the evening, a whopping hour and twenty minutes tactical frame, which Cotgrave?s Richards eventually won on the brown. With Pegasus needing every frame they can get to reduce Arnold?s superior frame difference it was imperative that the partnership of Piech and Langdon won the final frame of the evening against Richards and McMahan. The Cotgrave pair got the two snookers they required to pull themselves back into contention only to see Chris Piech knock in a miracle brown down the side cushion to win the frame for Pegasus and tie the leg.
