Hi all , i popped down sheffield today as they were offering some free practice to the Qschool players today. Thought i go down and make full use of it. After seeing that the standards was far too high i got upset and went toilet for a suicide attempt:

The attempt failed as the lifeguard came in and pulled me out. The thing is i didn't check the toilet first so i was in a right state when i got pulled out and their was pooh pooh all over the place. I definitely wont be trying that method again, its not very clean.

Anyway, on a serious not, i had about 4 hours practice down there on some STAR match tables like on the telly. They really are tight but are nice to play on if your buzzing as its all touch play. I did have regular breaks as the days are far gone where i can play continuously for 4 hours.

during my breaks i got chatting with some real nice women gymnast and they asked me to join them for a cup of tea. I said ok, but they do have some real strange ways of drinking tea;

hi all, i am on a bit of a high winning my first match 4-1. I had a 54 in the first and that really did settle my nerves. had 3 30 odd's after that. went 3-0 up and was 55 ahed needing just 2 more reds which were ther for the taking. I got clinches disease and miss an easy red and jamie made a great 44 break and then played safe on the brown and forced an error from me and won the fram to make it 3-1. He got in first in the next and was on a 22 break and lost position , i relied with a 34 and just played sensible to and got another 32 to win it 4-1.

I must keep my feet firmly on the ground as its just round 1 , but saying that i am really happy to have won. looking at the draws, i know i have my best draw in this first event and i got to make the most of that.

Cheers all

next game is on saturday

Bash

world snooker also informed players that if they are heard swearing by the referee then it is a £250 fine and if done twice in a match then its £500 and also lose a frame.

also, conceeding a frame with enough points still remaining is £500 fine.

cheers nav toby, its only gonna get harder and harder, one match at a time id the only way. All i can say is that one get get demoralized seeing all the great players from around the world competing for just 12 places. You can only focus on your own game and ignore the bigger picture and that's what i am trying to do.

some of the players kicked off today with the organisers as they only have two practice tables and have some ridiculous rule of not using the match tables for practice if they are available. They wer complaining that your only given half hour practice slot even though there are other free tables that are not being used. Bit silly really, but they are taking the comments on board and may change the practice format for the next event.

All the players are now using the star academy, which is about 2 miles from the veunue to practice, and i was very lucky to get a table this morning for 2 hours.

cheers all

Cheers wainwright, waynem and mike. One match at a time. They only allow 2 guest to watch. As I got no mates I took my two favourite teddy bears, you know, those in my YouTube video who I named juddy and starky. It's worked do far as most players down there are simply bermused at having two teddy bears watch them.

Post by: maqsood on 15 May 2011
hi all, as promised just thought i fill you in on my match yesterday.

First 2 frames were very scrappy, with a lot of safety with the colours getting tied up. I pinched the first and should have also pinched the second. In hindsight it may have been a different game had i gone 2-0 up. He won the second which gave him confidence and he then went on to take a lead in the 3rd of about 50 points win the third with i think a 48 break and missed an easy red. I made a 40 odd break and was on a great clearance and missed a difficult green down the rail. he pot green and brown to go 2-1 up. He took a lead in the fourth and looked clearly to go 3-1 up. He missed in the middle of a break and i made a break of 44 for him needing snooker on the blue. i levelled at 2-2.

At this point i really did think i would win this match because me pinching the fourth really did give me a lift and also i knew that given the chance i was scoring. Unfortunately, in the next 2 i can't remember have any real good scoring chances. He played ok tactically and pinched the points and then protected his lead and won 4-2.

i did owned up to 2 fouls which the ref did not see , which did not really have a bearing on the result. Fraser (who incidentally is from scotland and buddy with john higgins and Dotty, which he told me after) also was very sporting and on a crucial miss shot, the ref did not replace the white in quite the right position making the escape far easier and before i was asked , Fraser himself showed the ref where the white was to make his shot more difficult as it was originally. I though that was very good sportsmanship as it was a crucial state in the frame.

naturally, i was upset, because out of the 3 events, looking at the draws, i felt that this was my best draw. Anyway, got to stay positive and have 2 more chances and at the end of the day, it is very hard and players alot better than me have also been going out !

Anyway, i am sure you all want to see how i looked after i lost, i caught up with the pakistani overseas player Sharam Changazi and we cried together:

Title: Bring LOVE AND PEACE TO THE WORLD AND YOUR NEIGHBOURS
Post by: maqsood on 16 May 2011
For those in the know, i got an invite yesterday from an old time friend of mine by the name of David Singh. We had a fall out a while ago just before i packed up playing. It was all my fault and i said some really daft things in the heat of the moment. basically, i was on a rant and upset about 20 people that night and got barred from bci for 3 months. Its an episode i rather forget about as i believe i have now changed and become a better person all round. also i am a lot more happy and content in my life and love my family who mean the world to me.

Anyway, I seen David Singh last week at the Star Academy last week and we exchanged phone numbers and yesterday he called me to pop round his place for a practice.

All i can say is when i got there it looked liked something from the movies. his house is in the grounds of Newstead Abbey and it really is unbelievable. I have never been to such a place in my life. His snooker room is absolutely massive and can accommodate probably 5 full size tables. He has a lovely Riley aristocrat table which he purchased years ago from the benson & hedges tv competition. Played for about 6 hours from 6 till midnight. Longest i have ever played of late.

I really enjoyed it.

Thanks all, Bash

That the end of the message , but for some reason i dont think its complete without an image:

There really is nothing on the planet that compare with the most holy sanctuary on earth:

Good bash to see that you have forgiven your old enemies

One thing you forgot to put down was the frame scores and the breaks... your normally keep a record of all the figures in any session... so we are awaiting your feedback !!!
Title: Re: Q School 2011
Post by: maqsood on 16 May 2011
Well i wouldn't go as far as to say "enemy", but forgivenes is sometimes mutual, i think it was dave to forgive me as i was the one out of order. God likes those who are forgiving as we are ultimatly depenendent on God's forgiveness for our sins.

As for the score, i feel its not right to publicize a score when two players are simply practicing. I dont think it's right or fair to do that. I personally wouldn't like it if someone was practicing with me at bci and then broadcasted the result on here.

i have had a few practice sessions with jamie moore and he nor me have ever put the score on the forum and i respect him for that as he has given me an odd pasting or two.

In practice one does somewhat "experiment" a little here and there and may "push the boat out" perhaps to get a good break which one may lose the frame from. So practice scores are not "too" indicative of much.

As i say, scores only matter in competitions and there is certainly no tougher competition than the q -school. Its good that Juddy and David have offered me practice sessions and it can only be good preparation for our matches at sheffield.

I am a bit of a loner with my snooker but its does keep me happy. In the past i used to get to wound up about trying to win and used to try too hard in practice. i am now a little more chilled out in practice and reserve my energy for matches.

Anyway, the score was 00 to me and 00 to Dave, sorry the numbers keys on my keyboard are out of commission.

hello, just been playing for a couple of hours at keith's house. He's top man. The score again was 00 to 00. I think it's great to have a table at your house. Went to bci for some afternoon practice and ened up cring in there as it was really cold and the table was running terrible.

Sean croft had a match on table 5 and i racked the balls up for them in the 5th frame anD took out the middle red in the triangle> neither Sean or his opponent noticed . I dare not tell them after sean broke off as he done a really good break off and may not have seen the funny side of it. Sorry chaps.

Anyway at one point crofty threw a mardy and gave sean hokin a really dirty look. They were about to start fighting and kwok sorted it all out. It was nice to see wayne martin pop in. Also lovely to catch up with our very own legend Bob Wright. The other Bob (steward) done a right pooh in the toilet and no one would go in there for about half hour. He's the only person i know who beats me for toilet stench.

As you guessed i really have nothing to say whatsoever. After Sean lost he went home and took it out on his blow up toys:

Cheers all,

I have no one to blame but myself. The second was a black ball dame and i missed a easy shot on it that would have put me 2-0 up and instead it went 1-1. I was 30 odd up in the next and need just the last red and missed it and dave cleared to go 2-1 up. I had a decent 55 in the next to level at 2-2. Again, Dave pinched the next by taking the last red and colours. I missed an easy pink in the middle earliar on in this frame and could have sealed the frame. Instead i was now 3-2 down. Dave was probably wondering how is ahead in the match. Did'nt get a look in in the next and Dave took the match 4-2. I give dave a hug and kiss (on the forehead) and wished him luck. He kindly asked me to come up his house anytime when i want a session which was very good of him.

Noermally i can handle losing pretty well but as mentioned in my earliar post i felt totally dejected afterwards becuse it was a match which i lost myself by missing 4 or 5 crucial shots that would have sealed frames and i really did pay a dear price for it.

Sometimes it doesn't hurt as much, if you dont get chances and lose, i find that more acceptable.

I got to stay positive i really do feel within myself that i am playing well and cueing well. It just wasn't to be. I have now recovered and am looking forward to the final event No.3.

Thanks for the support and hearing me out. I do find this forum great in times of winning and losing.

Cheers all

Hi all, Just for information only.
There is a young asian lad at the q- school, I am not sure if he is the youngest there but he has just turned 17. His name is Saqib Nasir.

I had a chat with his uncle (who apparently owns a snooker club in Birmingham) the other day and he told me they have given him coaching since age of 8 and they got a star table at the club for him 2 years ago.

His uncle has very high hopes for him, but at least he has time on his side. I asked his uncle about the asian snooker scene in birmingham and he said his club is in an asian area and majority of his customers are young asian lads. He said most just hang about in there but there is a growing number of good serious players.

I never got round to watching saqibr yet but his uncle said i can come over to b'ham anytime to practice with him.

The q school has been a good experience and also i have made a few good contacts which can't be bad (even though, it's hurt a little on the pocket !).

cheers Nav, i was defo coming to watch that final without you asking. (Even if it is to see Paul Wainwright with his refereeing uniform on). In fact, wainwright phoned me last night and also asked me to be their just in case he has some difficult refereeing decisions, especially over a "free ball" because his eyesight is not very good.

Apparantly, I do wonder in the referee training programme if they do actually test their eyesight and conduct a "free ball" test on them? Perhaps Mr Butler can enlighten us???

In fact, i hope to get to all the local finals and watch them. Will see you monday at 7.30. Then again, seen as i am out of Q-school 2, I may as well pop to the pego comp tomorrow !!! so may see you all tomorrow.

Finally, as i said wainwright is struggling on his eye sight and last time i seen him i took a picture :
