Title: Mapperley v Wollaton (18/03/08)
Post by: Steve Butler on 12 March 2008
Mapperley are requesting a postponement of their last match of the season which is due to be played next week, due to some of their players being on holiday.  There is a possibility that they could end up knowing what result they need to secure promotion, although this is unlikely because:

(a) Peoples Hall would have to lose 8-0 or 7-1 and Mapperley would have to win 8-0 for Mapperley to finish above them.
(b) If Arnold draw or win, Mapperley cannot finish above them.  Arnold are playing bottom club Phoenix who have only won 3 games all season.

So basically, Mapperley need to win their final match to stand any chance of finishing above Arnold or Peoples Hall - a draw is no good to them.

Under these circumstances, does anyone object to this postponement?

We've no objection, apart from the finance, it might mean that they neednt play it at all, although there are about 3 blank weeks before the end of the season.

No objections here.

We probably need to secure a draw against Arnold to give us a chance of not finishing bottom, so we'll have our strongest side out.

Arnold Beware!

Well there you go. Phoenix 5 Arnold 3. Only playing the bottom team indeed!

We did have our strongest team out , they did all play extremely well, and we did have a bit of luck also.

It's a funny old game this snooker!
