Title: Spot On Christmas Snooker Tournament Results
Post by: Steve Butler on 03 December 2011
Tom Kerslake (Long Eaton) defeated Nav Hussain (Nottingham) 2-0 in the final of the Spot On Christmas Snooker Tournament to take home the winners trophy and £80 cash.  Kerslake was in great form all day, as demonstrated when he made a terrific 111 break.

Eleven year old Harry Farrell (Leicester) beat Jamie Sampson (Nottingham) 2-1 in the final of the plate competition.  This was Farrell's first tournament victory and he took home £20 after a great day's snooker.

All players were graded 1, 2 or 3.  Grade 1 players played off scratch.  Grade 2 players received 14 start from grade 1 players and gave 14 start to grade 3 players.  Grade 3 players received 28 start from grade 1 players and 14 start from grade 2 players.

The competition produced some outstanding snooker, the highlights being century breaks from three different players and a career best of 70 by Jordan Parnham which earned him £10.

Well done to everyone involved in the organisation of what sounds like a really great inaugural Spot On tournament. Fantastic turnout with lots of high breaks including 3 ton +'s by some great players. The one break though that really stands out for me is Jordan's 70...very impressive mate (that'll spur Crofty on!!!).

Well done to Tom and Harry on their victories, unlucky Nav and Jamie.

Thanks Troy, as you can see I've amended my report to include those results and breaks.

It was a great day Mike.  Very nice club and extremely friendly and helpful staff.  Jordan couldn't stop smiling!!

:)

It was great to see so many young players there too.  Harry is only 11 and a great prospect, as are Hugo (13) and Jorge (15).  Plus of course Sean Hopkin who continues to improve week on week and Sean (Crofty) and Jordan who just love playing!  Troy is a true gent and even Tom had a smile on his face.  Bash brought us all a huge box of chocolates which was a nice gesture (although Tom ate most of them).  It was a great day!

Also great to see new players Paul Slack, Martin Caulton, Dave McCullough and Mark Sheppard who were all perfect gentlemen and seemed to enjoy themselves!

I have been robbed by Steve and Troy call the cozzers!!!!!  :D

Looking at the table me and Troy should of had a play off!!!

It was a great day with some fantastic snooker the highlight was watching Joblin knock in 113 to just miss the green for a possible 138 clearance and the Ginger Ninja knocked in 116 it was like watching t.v  :)

Steve, Nav and Hanzla

Thank for clarifying the rule steve, quoted below:

The third part is:
(b) If the striker, in making a stroke, fails to first hit a ball on when there is a clear path in a straight line from the cue-ball to any part of any ball that is or could be on, the referee shall call FOUL AND A MISS, unless:
(i) any player needed penalty points before, or as a result of, the stroke being played; (see (b) (ii)
(ii) before or after the stroke, the points available on the table are equal to the points difference excluding the value of the re-spotted black;
and the referee is satisfied that the miss was not intentional.
This relates to the issue of centre-ball contact and also links back to the point previously discussed at point (e) regarding the situation of being 35 points behind with 35 remaining.
By way of background, this covers the only time a miss can be called when there are snookers required. This is when they are in the sequence that the frame could be lost following three misses when centre-ball contact (not to be confused with having to hit both sides of the object ball, eg in a free ball situation), is available. Even if during that sequence points now mean that the player trailing needs a snooker, a miss must still be called because they are in that sequence.
For example, imagine I am 30 points behind with 35 remaining, and I can hit centre ball of the ball on (ie red). I then fail to hit the red. A miss would be called and my opponent has the ball(s) replaced. Then I miss again meaning that I am now 38 behind with only 35 remaining. Normally a miss would not be called in this case because I would need a snooker. Because of the centre-ball contact however, a miss would still be called. That rule has always been there, but has not always been in the book.

It was that i was making an "out of the blue" claim. I genuinly thought that one of the amendmenst in the miss rule was that "irrespective" of whether snooker requires or not, if a player could see both sided of the object ball and finals to hit it then a miss is to be called. Like i say, it was a genuine case of my mind getting confuses as Hanzla had me under sevre mental prssure and my mind does not function proporly under them condition (no comments on that plaese).

However.

2. It may be worth all players reading the above and understanding it.

3. My mistaken understanding of this amendment is,in my opinion, how the rule should really apply. Otherwise there is a severe loop hole in this rule as will be explained in my next post. From which you will realise the logic of what i was thinking.

Thanks

Bash

Toby the reason i went through was on head to head in mine and yours match. If it had have been 1-1 instead of 2 0 then it would have been a play off.

Sorry Jordon, i overlooked your break of 70. Very well don on achieving that. It's nice when you break some of your own personal records. Well done mate. Please dont start making "too many" breaks like that, otherwise your handicap will come down. !!

Well done matey
