ALFIE BURDEN WINS IN WOKING
JIMMY ROBERTSON TOPS RANKINGS
Ex-professional Alfie Burden, Hatfield, comfortably won EASB Pro Ticket 3, Woking SC, Surrey defeating Robbie Williams, Wallasey, 5-1 in the final.
Burden relegated from the Main Tour last season leaps from 16th up too 2nd place in the rankings from 109 players, semi finalist and Event 2 winner Jimmy Robertson now leads the table, Michael Wild drops to 3rd, Stuart Carrington is 4th, Event 1 winner Chris Norbury 5th, Robbie Williams 6th, Craig Steadman 7th and
Gary Wilson is 8th.
Easy for Burden
The winner cruised to a 4-0 lead in the final conceding just 21 points overall in frames 2,3 and 4 making a 71 break in the 4th frame, Williams then won a re spot, Burden sealed the match in frame 6 with a 94 break.
Burden easily made the quarter finals beating IBSF Finalist Daniel Ward 4-1 after losing the first frame Burden fired in breaks of 57,86 and 105 beat Brian Cox also 4-1, Lee Payne 4-0 breaks of 77,71 and 61.
He twice trailed former English Amateur runner up Martin O?Donnell in the last eight who had beaten Chris Norbury, Burden breaks of 50 and 54 winning the last two frames easily.
In the semi finals he crushed Jimmy Robertson 4-1 snatching the 1st frame with a 63 clearance and the 3rd frame on the black finishing with a run of 64.
Williams hardly in trouble
The runner up also experienced little difficulty reaching the final defeating Jake Gill 4-2, James Welsh and David Birley both 4-1, Gary Wilson 4-0, 69 break and finally the home clubs Sean Bullock (50) 4-2, Williams 56.
Carrington 136 and out
Stuart Carrington made the weekends highest break in the last 16 a 136 but lost 4-2 to Shaun Parkes (83). In the previous round Carrington had beaten former pro Ben Woollaston 4-3 from 3-1 down.
David Portman made breaks of 113,61,98,92 and 62 in his first three matches accounting for England captain Craig Steadman losing in the last eight 4-3 to Robertson.
