The Steelers went into this match fielding just two players, with several players missing through either illness or holiday! As such they made the decision to play and accept the two penalty points rather than try and field someone who volunteered but had never picked a cue up before!

Steve Howard 18 - 35 Matt Ellis
Matt took the first frame which was very scrapy with a high break of 11 having failed to pot the black for an 18 clearance.

Dave Allsopp 15 - 54 Clary Plowman
Clary playing his first match of the summer looked like he had never been away - easing ahead and ensured Dave needed snookers going into the colours. The referee Ant then whilst trying to work out whether there was a free ball randomly picked up the white ball off the other table where Steve had just broke off in his second frame against Matt!! Clary kept his composure to secure this frame to make it 2-0 to Stadium.

Steve Howard 48 - 6 Matt Ellis
Matt never got going in this frame and a good 19 break helped Steve to ease into a 30+ lead going into the colours – Matt didn't pot a ball and his six points came from Steve going in off on the pink! 2-1 to Stadium.

Dave Allsopp 24 – 15 Clary Plowman
Scrappy frame with Dave making a 14 break and securing the frame to make it 2-2 overall.

Ant 15 – 37 Matt Ellis
Ant tried his best to put Matt off coating his hands in talc before the frame – then put it all over the table with huge hand marks everywhere!! He blames the heat....!! Matt managed to take the last two reds after a slow start and went on to clear yellow to pink making a 30 break which was enough to seal the high break point.

Ant 19 – 42 Clary Plowman
Clary found his form again in this frame making it difficult for Ant. Ant went in off potting the blue putting Clary in prime position. Clary then potted a awesome blue and pink to seal the frame and make it 5 – 2 to the Steelers. Overall a good natured match in the sweltering heat – well played Phoenix.

Steve Howard

thanx for the write up matt,it was a great!! friendly match,i thoroughly enjoyed playing against you,and meeting yourself and clary, for an ill guy in his 80's (is that right?),he played some awesome stuff, well played clary.proving age is no barrier in snooker, and as long as you enjoy it,that makes all the difference.
look forward to our next meeting with you over at yours, cheers, steve howard (phoenix) ;D

ps. the incident with 'ant' picking up the cue ball off 'our' table with the frame under way brought the house down ha ha!!
