Hello to all!!

A general discussion regarding this new Nhsl Ko Cup format this season, I would be very interested to hear all your views and comments regarding the following.....

THE NEW NHSL KO CUP FORMATION.....???

My general disscusion is regarding the new Nhsl Ko cup results formation! From my understanding I believe if i'm correct in saying your team in the new Nhsl ko cup this season needs to finish Top 1st in your individual leaguge/group that you are in inorder to qualify for the semi finals of the main cup, and 2nd place to be qualify for the semi finals of the plate competition.

Now take our "B Table" for example......
We have all played two matches the same number of games/matches! Mapperly have won1 & lost1 and are bottom of our league. Pegasus (B) on the other hand have played 2 and lost 2 and are 3rd in our group! So my understanding of it now is you Don't get any points for each match you've won within that league cup match handicap that your team may of won say on tuesaday, for example 2pts per win and
1pts for a draw! So it goes on overall scores!!!!

Take my Bci Super Elites Team for example... we have played 2 & have won 2, that 16/16 cup matches/frames won. If we went on to win our last match say 8-0 again for argument sake that would make it we have Beat every team and won all our cup matches in our group 8-0, 8-0 8-0 (x3)! 24/24 cup match/frames played and won but still no guarantee that we will finish top to auto qualify for the semi finals of
main cup competition!!!

Help..! My sincere apologies if I have been Reading this all wrong....? Please forward in any views you may all have regarding this issue. Perhaps your team haven't won a match but are not bottom like my example Pegasus 'B' would like to hear their take or Reading of it. Or if your teams currently Top of your league or in 2nd position.. I would like to hear all possible situations you are all in so it will shed some
light on this Ko cup formations!!!

All I'll say on this is:

Don't come to meetings + don't read the rules = CONFUSED!

The rules have been on the website since the AGM.  I have also emailed them to many players and captains.  I have also emailed the minutes to many players and captains.  I can only do so much, you will have to do the rest I'm afraid.

All rule changes are voted on at the AGM.  If you are not at the AGM you cannot vote.

Personally, I would love to see the lower ranked teams make it to the semi-finals.  I get bored of seeing the same teams year after year in the finals and winning the league.  Every team pays the same in and it's only right they get a chance to win a trophy.  This view was shared by everyone who attended the AGM which is why this new format was agreed upon and also why we have introduced divisional cups, ie. even more chances to win something.

Kwok, you are exactly right.

The only important factor is the number of points you score.

Hence, winning 100 - 99 in massively better than winning a frame 30 - 29.

Whether that promotes or rewards better snooker is up for debate, however, think it is an interesting idea to try for a season, and we can all evaluate at the end of the comp.

Firstly i do not know what the NHSL rules are. Having said that i agree with Steve that more oppertunaties for lower ranked teams to win something increases the willingness for these teams to play. All our competitions in both the NNIA and BDSl are handicapped on a league position basis. Thus the better teams are penalised more, giving a fairer chance for other teams. All the matches are therefore based on points scored not frames. It has happened that a team has won 4 frames to nil and lost on points, because of the handicap. The better teams will win out in the leagues, and over a period it has proven to be the case that they also win the cup matches. What do teams want? One team to win everything and the rest just play for the fun of it, or more distribution of trophies to some teams. It seems that you can't have it both ways.  :sorry:

Seems to me its the simplest way of changing focus on the game for something different from the norm i.e. rewarded more for your own breaks and for lower players like me, generally not missing your colours. Simples! <squeek>

I actually like the format as it gives you at least 3 matches and you get to play against clubs outside of your division.  There has been a slight change in the mentality of scoring but technically it's still the same.  Even before the changes, winning 6-2 in frames didn't mean you would win the match as you had to knock off the handicap which often led to sides defending what they had by keeping the frame tight and losing by as little as possible.  That is where the main change is, that now it's all about scoring and being positive rather than the negative tactics that used to be in play.  It also nice just to get on with the match without needing to know what the away leg are doing etc.  I guess we'll be back to that problem in the semi's unless they're played at a neutral venue which would be cool.

I also think the fact that so many sides are still in with a shout going into the last group matches is a plus point for the new format and i'm with Steve that it's great to see Oakleigh, and Wollaton etc in with a shout (in fact all the high handicaps are up there).  I think if you win all 3 matches your more than likely to qualify and i would be very suprised if a team didn't so i don't think you need to worry Kwok. In fact it looks like all the top sides are gonna win their groups apart from BCI Elites who will get thumped by Pegasus 'B'! ;)

Don't forget we have the new divisional cup competitions coming up which are all about winning frames, this cup comp which is all about scoring points and the league which is the traditional 2pts win 1 point draw format..... so i think we have it all covered.

Cheers guys for all your views and comments much appreciated! Cheers Steve for your email answering the question of the Nhsl league cup! As a Captain and player of both leagues, I respect that both have different cup formats both which are very good and have there pros and cons too! I'm alway in favour of new formats, I take my Hat off to anyone introducing them "Steve!" But obviously new formats are always under the spot light because of the previous methods used.

Unfortunately due to the nature of my work and it's commitments that come with it. I am unable to attend these Nhsl league meetings! Which brings me onto another point! I can never understand for the life of me Why most people always leave their match right upto the closing date if not after! I appreciate that everyone has their one commitments outside of this fantastic game, so therefore knowing this people in general with respect for the game and their opponents should contact ASAP to arrange a suitable date in advanced! It's not rocket science, just good time management so competitions run smoothly!

Quickly going back to my original point! I just want to make it clear to All Captains and players of the Nhsl league before they play their final cup match and then wonder Why they didn't finish top despite winning all their games!! So it look like we have to some how try and win Pegasus 'B' our final cup match by a miricle "test match cricket score!"

Thank again for all your thoughts, comments and views...
