PIOS - Event 1 (22/06/09)

The Pontin's International Open Series 2009/10, from which the top 8 finishers qualify for the professional main tour, kicks off on Monday 22 June 2009.

Out of a total of 142 entrants, there is just one entrant from Nottingham, Steve Judd from Bramcote.  Some may recall that Judd won the English Amateur Snooker Championship in 1991 when he beat none other than Ronnie O'Sullivan in the final 13-10.

Another name of note is Marc Harman from Surrey.  Harman competed in a few Eastwood Open tournaments, including the first one on 1 March 2008 when he was beaten by Wayne Martin in the final.

Old favourite Mike Hallett will be competing, as will Kyren Wilson who put on an exhibition for us back in November 2006 (was it really that long ago?).

RESULT

Jack Lisowski won the first PIOS event of the season.  He beat fellow English junior Liam Highfield 6-5 in a thrilling final after some superb results all week.

Lisowski started the event on Monday beating Ian Glover 4-0 and followed that up with two more whitewashes as he beat both Oliver Brown and Lee Richardson 4-0 to progress through to the Last 32 with a superb 134 break in the win over Richardson.

Another century followed on his way to beating Grant Cole 4-1 to set up a quarter final match against John Astley who proved to be a much harder match but eventually he ran out a 5-3 winner to progress. The semi final saw Jack face ex-main tour player Patrick Einsle from Germany but a 5-0 demolition would see him through to the final to face Highfield who was after seeing off Gary Wilson 5-3 in his semi final match.

The final saw Jack start the strongest going 2-1 and 4-2 up but Highfield fought all the way eventually getting back on level terms at 4-4 and 5-5 before Lisowski took the deciding frame to take the match and the all important 300 points and £3,000 first prize.
