Over to Steve Howard for the report from Gotham HQ.......

Steve Howard

Thanks for that Steve . . . .

Ritey oh!! Here's the GOTHAM HQ Home match report . . .

Frame scores:
Steve Kent     18 v 52 Nick Heard
Steve Howard  66 v 11 Steve Cropley
Nick Kirkman    50 v 51 Darren Pech
Howard/K'man  42 v 14 Hearne/Cropley

Up first was our  'kenty' . . .
And to start off with things were looking very promising for our Gotham guy, potting some cracking pots, but just didn't seem to finish on a colour. He did of course pots colours with some of his reds, but as his frame score shows not many, and Nick capitalized on some easy leaves.Though it has to be said,Nick for the 'embankment' team missed golden opportunites early on with most notably,a blue barely inches from the top pocket.I have seen him play much better,so he was,as all of us do from time to time, going through a bad spell,i think he'll agree . . .well done though Nick on winning your singles frame, and very bad luck to our 'Kenty',he was no where near his best tonight.
:bravo:

Next up Steve Howard, and after his early warm up,felt ready for his frame. Now,Steve was about to play Darren Petch, but in a strange twist of events, was asked by the Embankment team if they could change their order!I did agree, and played Steve Cropley. Not sure what the reason was for this sudden change of batting order, still we got on with it.
From the outset it was apparent Steve was cueing well, and at the first mistake by Cropley, was determined to get a good lead.Stevie got to a break of 24,not one of his biggest but just caught the middle pocket jaw on his next red, with a black or pink to follow, the break came to an early end with what looked an easy 40 ish break there for the taking . . .
Steve Cropley liked his doubles,i can tell you,as at every conceivable chance he got he went for them, and i think he got them all,but these were only single reds, and no colour was potted from the fab doubles.Again,as with our 'Kenty' in frame 1,Cropley was unlucky not to finish on any colours, and let in Steve for a small 15 on top of his ever increasing score this put the frame to bed,and Cropley conceded with,i think a red and all the colours still on. . .
Unlucky Mr.Cropley, and enjoy your holiday . . .(It was all he could talk about all night, obviously a little excited)

:bravo:

Nick Kirkman up for the final singles frame next.Nick did start seemingly well enough, and accumulated enough points for a decent lead,Darren his opponent wasn't potting much by way of colours in the early part of the frame, but upped his game a little and got right back at Nick.Partly due to some good run of the balls, but also due to Nick starting to miss balls he knew he should have put away.
And it didn't,(i don't think) help as Nick saw his lead whittling away.As the final 6 colours loomed,it was nip and tuck, and after yellow, green and brown were sunk,it was a very,(what seemed)lengthy safety exchange on the blue. This potted Nick only needed pink,i recall, but lady luck obviously wasn't smiling for Mr.Kirkman as Darren potted the pink and black to record the win and 'snatch' it only by the smallest of margins, just 1 point . . .
Unlucky our Gotham guy,Nick knows it should have been his win,and it turned out to be the frame that 'GOT AWAY'
Good snatch Darren,and bad luck Nick . . .
:bravo:

Last but not least, the pairs frame,i'll be short and sweet with this frame Stevie & Nick potting when they could as balls had gone astray on cushions, making it difficult to get any breaks, and Cropley/Hearne conceding quite early on,only managing to score 14 points.
Still,a draw at home 2-2 on the night, and with an excellent 4 nil away win for us,our away team giving us a well deserved 6-2 win!!
:welldone:

As always,a great bunch of lads for the Embankment team, and unlucky on the night, but great playing you all . . .
