GODRICH WITH THE FLU WINS APRIL EVENT

Despite suffering from the flu local Andy Godrich in his 86th Sunday Handicap since 1998 won April?s event, Willie Thorne Snooker defeating Ben Weir, 16, Newark 2-0 in the final from 37 players.

Godrich has now reached the Main Event final on four occasions won his first two matches 2-1 the 2nd against pro Joe Jogia who missed out on a maximum with a 104 break.

He then beat Lee Hall 2-0 and John Quartermain 2-0 who had knocked out Saga Masters winner Mark Selby 2-1 in the last 16 receiving 77 start.

Weir,16 who won the event in October will see his handicap trimmed again now down to +35 from +77 a year ago won two of four matches 2-1 beating in the semi finals for the first time young Jai Platts +84, 2-0 and in the last eight Wayne Holbrook 2-1 on a respot.

Lloyd Hughes, Coalville +84 in his 15th event decided at last to play a few safety shots going onto to win the plate for the first time with only two plate semi finals on his record, Hughes defeated newcomer Andy Booth 2-0.

Earlier Hughes had beaten the events 3rd pro entrant Ben Woollaston 2-1 off 100 start.
