Mike Langdon (56)   3-1   Ross Wilkin

Both players turned up tonight at the top of their game which made for a superb match and a tremendous advert for us mid handicappers.

Frame 1:
A high quality opening frame which took just 6 visits from each player for all the balls to be cleared from the table.  Langdon breaks off and is immediately punished by Wilkin who knocks in a cracking red and goes on to make an excellent 25 break before extended his lead with another run of 11.  After a couple of safety shots Langdon responds with a cracking 56 break but misses the brown leaving Wilkin only 21 behind with 22 on the table....yep you've guessed it, up steps the Stadium man to clear up and snatch the opening frame. (0-1)

Frame 2:
I can't really remember too much about this frame apart from lots of 15 & 16 breaks from both players. Think i got over the line by sinking last red, pink yellow and green.  Still it's now 1-1 and we've only been playing 25 mins.

Frame 3:
Once again both players really going for it with some amazing long pots from Wilkin.  Langdon edges ahead with timely 21 break before seeing out the frame to go 2-1 up.

Frame 4:
Another high scoring frame with Langdon on the brink of the 2nd round after making a good 34 break.  Wilkin once again hangs in there and needs all the colours to level the match. He knocks in a great long yellow screwing accross the green to leave it into the same pocket which he pots.  He then sinks the brown but ends up the wrong side of the blue which he sinks in the middle bag sending the cue ball in and out of baulk but finsishes a little high on the pink.  It's a tough pot but one i thought he would make the way he had been potting all night.  Sadly for Wilkin he catches it thick and both cue ball and pink land in the middle of the table for Langdon to win the match by rolling it into the middle.

Well played mate and hard luck.

Cheers

I wish I could have been there for frame one!  Sounds like a great match.  Well played both of you, some excellent breaks.  It's a funny old game!

:bravo:

PS. Website updated - two decent breaks on there already Mike, what's going on?

i know...can't quite beleive it myself.  only 1 break of 32 during the Pegasus summer league and now 2  40+ in 2 weeks.

I obviously want to claim my 1st team place back!!!!  ;)

If you're lucky they might have you as a substitute!

Yep it was a great match with both players on top form. I don't know about anyone else, but when I play like that I forget little breaks I got or important balls etc. I guess its just being in that zone and you only think about each shot at the time. I often see pros forget most of what they've just played and struggle to comment on it when asked. Good luck in next round Mike, I look forward to the report.
