WILSON SURGES ON ? WITH A STRUGGLE

CLARK IN FIRST FINAL

NICHOLSON WINS PLATE ON RETURN

Pontins winner Kyren Wilson surged further up the 2007 Under 16 Rankings, Potters, Coalville winning with a struggle the 7th event of the series defeating Ryan Clark in his first final 3-0 a flattering score line.

Clark who recently made his first match ton in a local league match emphasised
his rapid improvement after also qualifying for the EASB Premier Junior Tour by leading in the final?s opening two frames by over 50 points.

Clark opened the 1st frame with a break of 51, Wilson eventually snatching the frame (77-57) a run of 46 saw Clark control the 2nd frame only for Wilson to lay two snooker?s on the last red and in two visits snatch the last frame on the black (71-63).

Again Clark forged ahead in the next frame with a run of 37, Wilson countered with surprisingly his highest break of the day 51 and secured the very close whitewash on the pink (65-45) and his 3rd title in the series from 29 players (12 out of top 32 absent)

To reach his 5th final in the series Wilson for once did not feature much on the break board but only lost one frame in the earlier rounds. Accounting for Ben Cooper 3-0, 48 break, EASB finalist Tom Maxfield 3-0, Adam Bobat 3-1 and young Nathan Davenport, 12 in his first semi final 3-0.

Davenport now up to 11th in the rankings had beaten three known players to reach the last four including first event finalist James Jelley 3-1 and Shaun Peacock 3-2 who had beaten in form Nick Jennings by the same score in the previous round.

Clark leaps into the top 8 in 6th place defeated Jeremy Lee 3-2 on the pink after losing a frame despite a 48 break, Lee 45 after breaks of 48 and 71 in his first match.
Club mate Jonathan Buglass 3-2 also on the pink and then surprise semi finalist Ashley Sidaway 3-1, Clark 42.

Sidaway in only his 2nd event of the series crashes into the top 32 from 62nd announced his ability with a stunning 3-2 win over international Sam Thistlewhite making breaks of 47,54 and 63, Thistlewhite 43 and 49 to lead 2-1.

Jake Nicholson, 14, a regular last series claimed his first title on his return beating one of the country?s top players in 2007 Nick Jennings 2-1 with a 40 break - his 8th final so far over the two age groups this year.
