TRAVIS WINS FIRST TITLE

GREEN FIRST FINAL

Mitchell Travis runner up the previous month in the Under 16 Ranking Series, Willie Thorne?s (ex Potters) stepped up to win his first main title in the next event, September, defeating Mark Green in his first final 3-1.

With the win Travis climbs to 2nd place in the charts from 79 players, Green playing in only his 4th event of the series leaps up to 20th from 49th due to the Pontins Festival only 19 players took part more than expected.

Travis won the first frame (57-23) on the colours, Green drew level with a break of 48 which could have been a lot more if not for a kick (69-11).
Breaks of 21 and 40 restored the winners lead (77-4) and the 3rd frame (50-38) went to Travis on the pink after Green fought back from over forty points adrift.

The winner did not lose a frame in his three earlier 3-0 victory?s beating Adam Bobat, fellow Scunthorpe youngster Thomas Barley and Luke McEvoy.

Green accounted for Sameer Knight 3-0, first event runner up James Jelley 3-1 and Daniel Bestford in his first main semi final also 3-1 now up to his highest ever ranking 10th.

Cruise for Sam

Sam Thistlewhite broke into the top 32 for the first time this series winning the plate easily cruising through the field for the loss of just one frame beating Michael Richards in his first final 2-0.

Very few breaks were made in this event the best efforts Sam Harvey 51 and Luke Maddison another promising Grimsby product.

Tom Kerslake also breaks into the top 32 for the first time rising to 29th from 39th.
