WILKS WINS ON DEBUT

2ND PLATE WIN FOR HARVEY

On his debut Damian Wilks won April?s Under 17 event, Willie Thorne Snooker, Leicester from 17 players defeating the host club?s Sameer Knight 3-1 in his 2nd final of the year long series.

Wilks who reached the final of the EASB Regional Tour North Event 2 last October opened up a 2-0 lead at WT?s winning both frames on the latter colours (64-52), (68-40) with a break of 31 in the 2nd frame.

Knight won the 3rd frame easily (6-74) with a break of 44 and should have squared the match but committed suicide in the 4th frame Wilks requiring two snookers produced a brilliant 35 clearance after Knight went in off and then left a free ball (63-62).

Entry numbers continue to disappoint a total of 24 only so far considering an overall figure of 83 last year and the age group has been increased to Under 17 plus the tables and facilities are much better than Potters ? Wilks straight in at 8th in the rankings.

To reach the days final Wilks defeated Thomas Barley 3-1, 56 break, Connor Jones 3-1 and Jake Gill who led 2-1 also making his debut 3-2, Wilks a 39 in the decider.

Knight who reached the final of the 2nd event crushed David Malhuish 3-0 with breaks of 40,44 and 54, Sanderson Lam also 3-0 and then edged club mate James Jelley 3-2 on the black with a 33 clearance after trailing 2-0.

For the 3rd successive month Sam Harvey reached the plate final winning his 2nd title beating Anthony Green on his debut 3-2, Harvey breaks of 41 and 68 to go with efforts of 45 and 86 earlier.
