Bulwell Senior Snooker
@ Bulwell C.I. - Best of 7 frames
7.30pm, Thursday, 12th July 2012.
Sean HOPKIN (SH)  v  Chris WINTER(CW)

Frame 1  -  SH  51   CW  21
Nervous start by both players, SH got in with 2 x 16's and eventually took the frame on the colours. 1-0

Frame 2  -  SH  43   CW  67
SH was first in with a break of 36 but then CW came back with a break of 30 and took the frame on the colours.  1-1

Frame 3  -  SH  41  CW  64
SH seemed to be cruising with a 30+ lead but CW made a terrific break of 56 to go 41-64 ahead with the blue in play but SH failed to escape from a snooker.  Thought CW deserved a round of applause for his 56 break.  1-2

Frame 4  -  SH  1   CW  82
SH was struggling to get in the frame, CW was 30+ in front and potted a long red but failed to get on a decent colour round the baulk end of the table so laid a snooker between the green and yellow. With 6 reds left on the table round the pink and black spots, SH trying at least a 3 cushion escape, missed the reds and hit the blue twice and managed to thread through the reds and hit the black
twice - each time being called a 'foul and miss'. Having conceded 39 points SH eventually conceded the frame.  1-3.

Frame 5  -  SH  69   CW  54
SH was first to post a decent score on the board with a 33 break but CW pegged him back to just needing 1 snooker with the pink and black in play. CW, trying a thin chip off the pink on the baulk cushion, missed the pink and conceded the frame.  2-3

Frame 6  -  SH  34   CW  84
SH was again the first one in with a 25 break, again CW hit back with a 46. With 1 red left on the table SH snookered CW from which he failed to escape and left SH a free ball. He took the black as free ball but the white flew off the cushion and SH didnt really have a shot so tried to come off the top cushion up behind the black but it didnt reach leaving CW a free ball. CW eventually took the brown, blue and pink to take the frame and the Championship.  2-4.

A good final well contested between 2 equally talented players. I think CW came out on top with his experience and I think SH struggled with his nerves playing in front of his family.

Well played to Chris who on the night did play some decent stuff when he needed to, was good to see him play like we know we can do in patches espec with the good 56 break apart from the missed red it looked like he was on for a 91 clearance.

Hardluck to Sean though who im sure will be the 1st to admitt he didnt preform on the night, he said he wanted the preasure of his famly being there and ive no doubt this is jut a learning curve he will have to overcome if he is to achieve the heights some of us know he can reach.
