Event 1 - Willie Thorne's, Leicester

LIAM HIGHFIELD 147 AND PREMIER JUNIOR TOUR WINNER

WASLEY MAKES 4 TONS

Seventeen year old Liam Highfield (Stoke) won the 1st Premier Junior Tour event of the new season, defeating Stuart Carrington, 18, Grimsby 4-2 in the final.

Highfield also made his first maximum break the 147 coming in the last 16 against Danny McCann, Liverpool, Highfield doubled the 10th red at the same time dislodging another safe red on the side cushion.

Carrington led 2-0 in the final, Highfield drew level with a break of 54 and closed out the last two frames easily.

The winner also posted the best group record on the Saturday winning 15 of his 18 frames unbeaten along with Daniel Hildyard 15-6 and Ryan Mears 12-5 in a 5 player group.

With the top four of the 8 qualifying for the first time the last 32 stage awaiting two  results from the final round of group matches play was held up for a while on the Saturday evening.

Highfield who won a PIOS event last term also sailed through the knockout stage beating George Marter 4-0, McCann 4-1 along with the max a 51 break, Sam Craigie 4-1 breaks of 50 and 55 and finally Kamran Ashraf also 4-1 breaks of 50 and 55 again.

Carrington only lost 3 frames up to the final defeating Ben Harrison 4-0, 62 break, Alan Moore in style 4-1 with efforts of 100.78,56 and 73 then Kyren Wilson 4-2, 105 break and lastly high scoring Michael Wasley 4-0, 99 break.

Wasley had made group breaks of 75,115,60,108,65,92 and 53 then scores of 100,114,95 and 85 in the knockout stage.

Group F produced 18 breaks over fifty with fit again Jack Lisowski providing five breaks topped by a 133, Dale Branton 115, Alex Dunkley 107 and Ben Harrison 100.

Kyren Wilson made breaks of 68,54,55 and 78 to beat Ryan Mears 4-0 then a 109 in the deciding frame against Ryan Causton after trailing 3-2.

Next event October 11th-12th - Northern SC, Leeds.

Entries closed for season at 48 players.

In recognition of his 147 break made in the EASB Junior Premier Tour, Liam Highfield (right) was recently presented with an EASB Certificate of Merit by Tournament Committee Chairman, John Hartley. This was Highfield's first maximum break and it came in the first of the Junior events held at Willie Thorne?s, Leicester, on Sunday 21st September 2008.
