Please note that with immediate effect, Matt Walters has been upgraded from a grade 2 to a grade 1.  This upgrade was actioned upon the request of the player.

The NBSA Committee will always grant an upgrade upon the request of the player concerned, however requests to downgrade must be agreed upon by the Committee and may not always be granted.

The Committee will be meeting this Wednesday 6th February.  If any player would like to be considered for a downgrade, or request an upgrade, please let us know.

Additionally, if there is anything else you would like the Committee to discuss at the meeting, please let us know either by replying to this thread or sending an email to mail@nottinghamsnoooker.com

Items for the Agenda
1. Payment of team league entry fees
2. Monday Team League - 2 frames each?
3. Jamie Sampson - downgrade from 1 to 2
4. Coin toss or Lucky Loser?
5. Sean Croft - downgrade from 2 to 3
6. Unregistered players - bring in late as grade 1?

Hello Steve,

I would ask the committe to consider the following request please:-

To change Monday snooker to the same format as Tuesday's, ie, play 2 frames each.

I have spoken to a few players who also agree with this change but of course I don't know if this is universal.

The main reason is that for me, coming out for a night of snooker and playing one frame isn't as enjoyable as to the 2 frames on a Tuesday night. With 2 frames it gives both players a chance to get their "eye in" and in my opinion provides for more fluent attacking snooker (as players aren't so concerned at making a mistake which could cost them the frame). Also, for a lot of players driving long distances and coming out for just 1 frame of snooker doesn't add up.

Obviously, for 1 table venues then we can just double up the frame scores as currently happens on Tuesday nights.

I will leave this open to the floor if anyone has any views before it is considered by the committee.

Can I also recommend that Jamie Sampson is downgraded to a 2 please. I think Jamie would agree that he is not playing as much and his level is probably incorrect at the moment. Happy to discuss more at the meeting.

Steve I'd like to be upgraded to 1 mate.

Consider yourself upgraded from 2 to 1 immediately mate.  You're now a grade 1 in all NBSA leagues and competitions.

Any NBSA member can check their grade and that of other members by clicking HERE.

The grades of all players (including non-members) can be found HERE.

Three agenda items please, one of which Harvey already suggested.....

Two frames on Monday
I'll second Harvey's comments about the preference for 2 frames on a Monday night for teams.  Especially among players who have tried the two frames format, the preference for 2 frames is practically universal.

Unregistered players
I'd like to see a rule change regarding unregistered/non-handicapped players turning out for teams "at the last minute".  Currently the rule is: When a player not registered/handicapped 24 hours before a match they lose the frame in a team match 147-0.  A more sensible alternative would be:
QuoteThe captain concerned to apply for a handicap/grade before the match regardless of timing.  In the event that a handicap/grade is not awarded by the time a match starts then the player must play as a grade 1 player.
A player cannot be disadvantaged more than playing with a Grade 1 handicap anyway so the result could not be effected in favour of the players team.

Sometimes captains  are confronted with difficult situations and need to bring in players late.  Surely anything that makes that easier is a good thing (e.g. one of our Monday players has pulled out very late this week due to unavoidable circumstances).

Coin tossing to decide matches
I know this probably wont get far but.....
QuoteRule to apply in knock out tournaments:  In the event that neither players calls to claim a match or submit a result then both players concerned are eliminated from the tournament. A losing player who abided by the rules in the previous round will be drawn out of the hat and go through as a lucky loser instead.
The rule is similar to tennis when a player is disqualified or injured in qualifying a lucky loser goes through.  If you can't play your match within the rules then you should be out if no contact is made.  The big anomaly this removes is where some players are eliminated for not playing (if their opponent claims the match) while others go through by a coin toss (because their opponent also fails to complete their fixture).

I like this idea a lot, it is much fairer than the current system, I would also support 2 frames on a Monday. One of the reasons I don't play on a Monday is all that faffing about for one frame - no thanks...

If you play 2 frames on Mondays as well as Tuesdays then there might not be a need to run a league both nights. You might all as well play on Mondays. There has to some difference in the format or it's of no consequence as to when you play. This would also upset the clubs, where they require the revenue from both nights. There are 2 ways in which this could work. 1) by only having 3 players on a Monday. 2) by using the same Monday format as it is now (EG aggregate scores). Anyone think of any more?

I am happy with either format, ie, 3 players or aggregate format...

I guess if we have 3 players there is greater scope for a higher number of teams perhaps?

Please, dont go down this '3 man' or '6 man' teams again.
Yes we need to keep both the MONDAY & TUESDAY night Leagues formats going.
We cant all play on the ONE night. Playing on 2 nights surely raises more revenue.
I have always been for agreeing for each player to play 2 frames - nobody really wants to turn out, weather or distance just to play ONE frame.
I know the problem with the Monday League was if they only have one table, but why, has been suggested, if that is the case then just double up on the frame scores.
This would obviously need a 'major rethink' for the Monday League points system as they would use their unique scoring system ie '1 point per frame and 1 point for the match'.

I would suggest both Mon & Tues Leagues playing the 2 frame system.

Based on what I have just read for Monday nights I suggest:
4 players playing 2 frames each.
A league table of frames won and keep the bonus point (aggregate) - similar to Mondays now.

I agree with Bob that there should be a difference between the nights after all.  I would not be completely against three player teams but I do prefer four.

Andy Carnell

I think 2 frames per player will work on a Monday night aswell as Tuesday, but i would agree with Dan and suggest you get a point for every frame that you win on either night and the bonus point if your team wins.

James Robinson

Call me old school, but monday nights has always been 4 players 4 frames its worked for this long so why change. im totaly with bob if both leagues are the exactly the same then why 2 leagues might as well just play 1 league on a monday or a tuesday and scrap the other.

We then also have the problem with 1 table clubs, what do we do play just 1 frame ( which brings us back to square 1 again cause then ur just playing frame which u dont want to do) and double the scores at the end is that fair on them or other teams then that a 1 table club could never get a 5-3 or a 6-1 win which would then affect frames for and against.
