Long game lasting two and half hours edged by stewart crosswell

Frame 1 saw crosswell surge ahead by 50odd points with only colours left with moore gaining a couple snookers back but crosswell closing out the frame with couple colours to put out of reach.

Frame 2 with both players missing many chances crosswell goes around 18 up before missing crucial pink to middle allowing moore to move infront before and going down to black ball game crosswell missing a good chance before both exhanging few safety shots before moore pots long black to tie up the frame.

Frame 3 runs similar to last frame but crosswell doesnt hit blue hard enough on 29 leaving blue over the hole. More misses from both players with moore playing some nice shots to get back into the lead. Cant remember how the frame finished but Moore wins.

Frame 4 sees both players have couple chances with mini breaks but moore misses red and crosswell knocks in a 41 clearence.

Frame 5. Many safety shots exchanged in tight start but crosswell opening up a 20 odd lead with the colours getting tied up and reds going to one side of table. Both players potting balls but not easy table to open up reds. Moore pots decent long red and goes just 14 begind but leaves crosswell an easy green and brown to go 21 up before potting the pink to win.

Delighted with the result beating a decent player gives plenty of confidence for the rest of the torno.  Not so delighted with the prices sneinton charges though!

this sounds like a really good match for both players its sad there has to be a loser, but with regards table prices i think its a joke that some clubs charge these sorts of prices, i played from there last season and i found the same i was paying similar prices when i played from there in the singles league, its a disgrace considering that players are representing there club, and what do you get in return from them (SOD ALL) except a big table bill. guess i could have done the washing up then to. snooker clubs being represented by players should be grateful towards the business they get from teams turning up and playing there, i know alot of clubs do there best for there players, its a shame its not all of them. i may get a backlash from this but the truth is , its a FACT.

Gaz - I suppose action speaks louder than words and when nobody plays there any more they might wonder why!!!

£16 is way too much - bordering on daylight robbery.

Wayne - Your "Spot On!" matey!  Actions speaks louder than words!!!

I know The legendary James Moore, likes to get on with it as well! So can you imagine the cost of the table if he plays a slower opponent in the Nhsl league "Not mentioning any names!"   ;)

It's no wonder that clubs close down and snooker loses public interest.

Most of the clubs around Notts are quite reasonable on price and also treat the teams to either half price or free snooker during matches.
Some even pay for the players to enter the leagues and competitions, so seeing this kind of price is crazy.

I fully understand that clubs need to make money and back this but there is a limit to how much you can charge per hour before putting people off.

I appeciate that there is not just the team members to consider, but surely inflated light rates will eventually discourage job public.

Stapleford Cue Club have got it about right haven't they.  I noticed they have reduced rates for team members which is great because it encourages the members to play in the team which is good publicity for the club, particularly in the NNIA & NHSL leagues which receive weekly press coverage.

I also spotted the other day that a club elsewhere in the UK does annual membership.  I think the cost was about £350 but for that you get unlimited snooker.  Golf clubs have been doing this for years and I can't understand why snooker clubs don't do it.  Any committed player would benefit from this sort of package and it would ensure that members stayed more loyal to the club.  There would also be some members who pay this fee every year but hardly ever play so overall the club would be onto a winner.

Generally I think the owners/managers of snooker clubs need to be more innovative otherwise they will lose their members to the clubs that provide the better deals.

Yea i know I did say at the end if get any half rate for tables as I always play my singles games there and is usually around 10 pound. Me and james both get on with it but a couple frames got dragged on by long saftey play bouts and when another player needed snookers at the end of the frame.
Is a shame as like playing there quite like the tables and easy for me as dont have a ar in Notts so dont have to waste time getting buses anywhere.
They do have an advertisment in there though for teams playing there next year getting free table light for matches so hopefully that can change. I want to play in the nazareth league next year so was hoping to get a team to play there on the tuesdays

Steve Butler

If we change the format to three-man teams, as is looking likely, then you shouldn't have any problem getting a team together.

crosswell147

Yea thats a great point steve.
I know at my snooker club back at home, chandlers ford, used to do offers like 60quid upfront for a month and get free snooker from 9-6. When was a youngster used to spend all my summer holidays there and the club was always packed out. Spot on just doesnt seem to bothered. They do have good daily offers there like playing from 10-6 for 12quid upfront.

Hi All,

Have spoken to Tom (owner of Spot On). Had many debates with him regarding the cost to play snooker at the club. On a few occasions he has given me free lights last year when i played a few league games (provided him with a fixture list). This year the club has been struggling due to high overheads etc, hence sometimes the heating is switched off to save money.

The point Tom made was to have a snooker team under the name " Spot on Sneinton" and he will then provide free membership, free lights (not half rate) and also free to practice on league nights. Now that is definately worth it, but he knows we play under the name Pegasus and because of that, his club does not get promoted.... i know we bring players from other clubs etc, but he wants it under his name.

Now if the 3 man team came into force next year, then obviously there will be more teams and as Stewart said he would join the NHSL and not the Zingari. I would not mind joining with him and another player.... but at the moment Pegasus is priority.

Lets see what happens with the setup in terms of 3 Man teams and we can go from there, Spot on snooker club is definately one of the best clubs to play at. Tables are cleaned and any rips are repaired within the week.  :bravo:
