Steve Butler 3-1 Shaun Parkinson

Frame 1 got off to a nervy start with both players struggling to pot anything but I was the quicker to settle down and I managed to pot a few colours at the end to take the frame.

Frame 2 saw a much better performance by Shaun.  He had a solid 20 odd break which included a few baulk colours.  I managed to claw my way back into it though and I had a fairly easy blue and with the pink over the middle bag I would have won the frame had I potted it.  However I missed the blue and Shaun slotted it in followed by the pink to steal the frame and level the match at 1-1.

Frame 3 was also very close and I just managed to pinch it on the pink.

Frame 4 had a similar ending to the 2nd, however this time it was Shaun who missed an easy blue that could have won him the frame.  To make things worse, I left him a cut on the pink in the middle, but he missed it completely and this meant he needed a snooker.  With the black tight on the side cushion it was a virtually impossible task and I ended up potting the pink to take the frame and match 3-1.

The match could easily have finished 3-1 to Shaun.  He played well overall and was unlucky.

This win puts me level on points and frame difference with Sean Hopkin, my next opponent!

Steve Butler 3-1 Sean Hopkin

I don't know how I won this match because Sean played better than me although it did take him a while to settle down.

I won the first frame (can't remember how!) and then the second with the help of a 30 break to put me 2-0 up.  Always nice to get 2 frames on the board so you know you can't lose.

The third frame saw Sean make a 28 break and he won it easily.  He played much better than me in this frame and was getting into his stride.

Sean continued to pot in the final frame and he got himself into a decent lead.  I don't really remember too much about the frame except for my 34 clearance that secured an important win for me.

Thanks for the game Sean.  I'm very pleased with the win considering how I played.  I only played well in small patches and that, combined with my half decent safety game proved enough.  I do think you played better than me on the whole.

Thanks to Jordan Parnham for reffing the match and for making some nice air holes in my ceiling!!!

Oh My God Steve what lengths will you go to, to win a match.
Thats employing tactics if I've ever seen it...switching the video camera on to put your opponent under instant pressure, do you usually make all your guests so nervous when they come to your place..lmaoooo

I'll have to ask Sean,  when the camera was on,  if he was also interrogated while taking his shots..

Joking of course, thats a nice touch to have it videoed, will you be putting it on the site?
That is a very good result for you Steve (team mate) ;)   :welldone:
I know you haven't been feeling very confident about playing Sean.
The result puts you bang in contention now. Looking forward to our game next. ;)

Aup Nick.

To be fair he played alot better, The camara gave me more nerves because i wanted to play well in front of it but playing on a table ive never played on before you have to take 1-2 frames to get used to the speed and stuff. Too many poor safety shots cost me really, as you'll all see on the video. Something just dosen't seem the be right with my game, hasn't done for a long while now.

Good luck with the rest of the season mate!!!!!  :drink:

Thanks Nick.  I am transferring the footage now from my camcorder so it will be online soon.  As will the NHSL singles and pairs finals from last season (about time!).

I don't mind filming any match at my place if my opponent wants me to.  I know Sean was keen to see himself on youtube!

Time for a cuppa.....

Nick Kirkman 2-2 Steve Butler

I went into this match having not slept for 25 hours so I was well chuffed to come away with a draw.

Nick started the match in amazing style.  He barely missed a ball and I was rooted to my chair in the first 2 frames.  He made a 30 in the 1st frame and then a 30 and a 48 in the 2nd to go 2-0 up within half an hour.

As frame 3 started I thought I was going to get whitewashed but I managed to make a game of it and I eventually won it on the brown.

I managed to score quite a few small breaks in the final frame which left Nick 50 behind with 51 on the table.  I potted a long red and then rolled up behind a colour in baulk which forced the concession from Nick.

Absolutely delighted with a draw considering the way Nick played in the first two frames!

I knew if I had any chance against Steve, I needed to keep him off the table and also try not to get into a tactical battle with him as My safety play is almost non-existent LOL as it proved in frame 3 and 4.

I probably played the best two frames of snooker in the last 12 months to win the first two frames.  Making contributions of 23, 30 and 27 in the first and in the second I won the frame in two visits with breaks of 30 and 48. I got perfect position on the last two reds but they were touching each other, one of them didn't go the other was very tight I played it dead weight but it just bounced off the other red, always Ifs and Buts but was on for about a 90 break with all the hard work done.

Frame 3 Steve played very well and established a lead, I had a 21 to close the gap but I missed a sitter of a red above the black spot which could have developed into a frame winning opportunity but later on after potting the last red and blue the white fell short of pace for the yellow and I was snookered, eventually I lost the frame.

Frame 4 was all Steve with the bit between his teeth, I potted a couple of long reds and got the colours  only to run out of position each time but the run of the balls and some good potting and a few healthy contributions from Steve put the frame beyond doubt with two reds still on the table.

I think most players after being 2-0 up feel they should go on and win at least one of the last two frames and feel robbed when they don't. I know Ant felt robbed against me when he was 2-0 up and I also felt robbed when I was 2-0 up against Mike but you just have to remember it's about 4 frames not just the first two.

I know if I carried on playing like I did in the first two frames I would have won this match but the fact is... I didn't, and Steve deserved the draw and all credit to him especially as he didn't really get a go in the first two frames.

Good luck Steve in the second half of the season, I think your going to be the one to beat in this division. ;)

I know you said to me after the match your glad I'm in your team 'NHSL' but let me just tell ya,  I'm glad I'm in your team, I don't want to have to play you too often LOL.

A big Thank-You to Steve Burrows for refereeing the match for us.

As for your handicap, it serves you right for winning the doubles!
