Steve Butler

Another good win for Gotham to maintain our hopes of a top two finish.

At Lenton, Steve Butler beat Adam Goodall thanks to a few small breaks.

Steve Burrows was neck and neck with James Murrin until the Lenton player made a terrific 44 break and he went on to win the frame.  Great play by Murrin who cued well all night.

Dave Griffiths started slowly against Arif Mohammed but a modest 10 break which included some amazing pots seemed to lift his confidence.  With blue, pink and black remaining, Griffiths was 2 points behind.  He held his nerve to pot all three for an important win.

Butler and Burrows took on Goodall and Murrin in the pairs.  The Lenton lads opened up a good 25 point lead but a solid 19 break from Butler brought the Gotham pair back into the frame.  Burrows potted the brown but left the blue over the bag for Goodall.  It looked like it was all over as the pink was also over a bag, but somehow Goodall missed the blue.  Butler then potted blue and pink to secure a 3-1 win for Gotham away from home.

Now it's over to Steve "Motormouth" Howard for the report from Gotham HQ......

Once again,Steve Butler, straight in there with yet another nickname, the list is becoming endless!!!!!!
Right on to the more serious task in hand of our Gotham HQ 'Home' match report . . .
Frame scores:

Steve Howard 59 (24) v 29 Trev Clarke
Nick Kirkman    30       v 44 Jim Wright
Steve Kent     45       v  31 Roy Hamlin
Steve/Nick     58        v 34 Trev/Roy

Up first Steve Howard, continuing his winning run, after smashing the pack apart early on,went in-off,and also left 2 reds over pockets.
Trev, who i always enjoy playing, could only make a small 9 from the scattered reds. But to his credit, did pot some really nice balls, but left Steve in too many times, who had a run of 24,(should really have been much more),before the red that woulda cont'd the break just stopped on the lip of the pocket, with black ball position gained, another much bigger break got away.Steve running out a comfortable winner.
Great playing you again Trev . . .
Nick up next, and although Nick was ahead at one point in the frame, after playing 'catch up' to Lentons' Jim,it was the Lenton player who made the most of the bad running Nick was having. He potted some great balls, only to sigh open mouthed as on several occasions, the white ball found it's way into the middle pockets. This was the story of his night, and although he had a final 'surge' it was not
enough, and Nicks bad luck, and run continues for the time being.Jim potted some cracking balls, and pipped Nick to the post.Well done Jim.
'Kenty' up next and was due a win tonight,at the start Steve kent, took colours with his reds to mount a good attack on his opponent Roy,but equally Roy for Lenton potted consistently when a chance came his way.He Seemed to revel at snookering when an easy chance came his way.It was neck and neck most of the frame, and was unclear who would emerge victor. But our 'Kenty' held on for the win.
Unlucky Roy,but great talkin' with you, during the course of the evenin'.
Finally, the pairs, and Steve/Nick up against Roy/Trev.Despite the 2 frame wait.Steve was still cueing well, not as well as he woulda' liked, but well enough.Nick still struggling in this frame too,and the middle bags came into play again,as when Nick missed a red the white seemed to slow down near the middle bags, along with a sitter near the same bag, gifting the Lenton pair some very easy points, much to the dismay of Nick.Still they knuckled down,to the task of winning the frame, not too sure of what the away team were doing.Trev/Roy still potting reasonably well, and made a fight of it,that's for sure. But down to the last 4 colours Steve potted brown, blue fluked in off 2 or 3 cushions by Nick, and this left Lenton at 'snookers required' stage, after a couple of attempts,Lenton conceded . . .
3 frames to 1 to Gotham at home, and 3-1 away to our away lads,so a very good 6-2 win on the night . . .
I have to say, what a lovely 3 guys Trev, and Roy and Jim are, always gallant in losing and made the evening more enjoyable with friendly banter,a credit to the Lenton team . . .
Long may you all continue to play,i for one, thoroughly enjoy their wit and humour so i applaud you all . . .
:bravo:  :bravo:

Well played team GOTHAM!!!!

And well played both teams too!!!

'Motormouth' Howard signing out . . .
