ENGLISH UNDER 19 CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIERS

After over a months delay due to February?s snow storms the last regional qualifier for the EASB Under 19 Snooker Championship could not be completed until March 29th to reduce the field to the last 16 which has also now taken place report to follow when match sheets available.

North East/North West/Yorks ? Northern SC, Leeds ? 7 qualifiers
John Roberts 2nd on the area?s Regional Junior Tour won both of his first two matches 4-1 then defeated the home clubs Gene Lam 4-2 who knocked out international Daniel McCann 4-3 in the first round after trailing 3-1.

Sanderson Lam made breaks of 45,74 and 48 twice to beat Carl Mottershaw 4-0 in his first match then accounted for Luke McEvoy 4-1 and James Dabell 4-2.

Daniel Womersley won his first and last matches easily but let slip a 3-1 lead over Antony Jeffers in the 2nd round beating this season Under 14 finalist Oliver Lines 4-1 in the last match with a 67 break.

Mitchell Travis won both his matches 4-1 as did last seasons Under 16?s winner Sam Craigie the 110 sport player making breaks of 52,63 and 61.

Stuart Carrington showed his class again crushing Jamie Gibson 4-0 with breaks of 123,65,40 and 52 and Kamran Ashraf 4-2 breaks of 63 and 82, Ashraf 56.

And finally Damian Wilks came back from 2-1 and 3-2 down to beat Jake Nicholson 4-3 on the black.

East Mids/West Mids/East ? Willie Thorne SC, Leicester ? 5 qualifiers
Liam Highfield who made a 147 in the PJT at Willie Thorne?s back in September again found the venue to his likening beating Mitchell Mann 4-3 leading 3-1 with back to back breaks of 84,107 and 86 winning the decider well 99-0 and Chris Wakelin 4-2 after leading 2-0 just breaks of 44 and 41, Wakelin 49.

Tom Maxfield lost just one frame in his three matches the last a 4-0 win against Lewis Mayes who had beaten Kyren Wilson 4-2 in the previous round.

The home club's Sameer Knight won both his matches 4-3 trailing twice in his final match against Oliver Brown.

The top two in the Midlands Regional Tour qualified Nik Charalambous defeated Sam Harvey 4-2 and James Young 4-1 which included a break of 80.

Shahrukh Nasir overcame James Jelley 4-1, 53 break and the more experienced Syd Wilson 4-3 who lost the 5th frame despite a 52 break.

South West/South East ? Chandlers Ford SC ? 4 qualifiers
The long snow delayed qualifier saw Billy Castle comfortably through in his final match he was pegged back to 2-2 by Jake Stewart winning 4-2.

After a walk over Jack Lisowski cruised through winning both matches 4-0 the last with breaks of 57,62,67 and 51 to beat Nick Jennings.

Dale Branton also encountered little resistance beating RJT South winner Lawrence Oliver in the last round 4-1,Oliver had beaten Kristian Kelly from 3-1 down.

Last season?s runner up Ben Harrison claimed the final place beating Kurtis Weaver 4-0 then Ryan Causton 4-3 on the last colours after leading three times, Harrison 77, Causton 56.

ENGLISH UNDER 19 SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP

Grimsby?s Stuart Carrington and Liam Highfield, Stoke have reached the EASB Under 19 final ? World Snooker Academy, Sheffield 23rd & 24th May.

Both players have previously played in English Finals at a lower age group, Carrington featuring in his 4th individual final.

Highfield lost to the emerging Jack Lisowski in the Under 13 final in Plymouth 2003.

Carrington who has won a Pro Ticket Tour this season beat Mitchell Travis 4-3 in the first round winning frames 3 and 4 on the black to lead 3-1 he crushed John Roberts 2nd in the Regional North Rankings 4-0.

And fell over the line 5-4 against Jack Lisowski who made a 109 break in the 3rd frame, Carrington led 4-2 eventually winning the decider on the black.

Highfield who won Event 1 of the Premier Junior Tour which included his first 147 comfortably came through the bottom half of the draw defeating last seasons runner up Ben Harrison 4-1 the 4th frame on the black, Dale Branton 4-1 and Shahrukh Nasir 2nd on the Midlands RJT 5-0 with breaks of 84,87 and 55.
