JENNINGS FINAL JINX AGAIN

MANN BEATS DOWNING ,14, IN PLATE FINAL

Ryan Mears crashed the party in the latest Under 21?s, Potters, Coalville beating Nick Jennings 3-1 in the final too win the 7th event in the year long series from a healthy field of 37 players ? 12 of the top 32 absent mainly due to the Pontins Pro-Am.

With the win Mears, 18 rockets up the rankings to 8th place from 47th in only his 2nd event at the club. Jennings, 15, the runner up in three of the last four events has to be content by climbing one place to 2nd headed still by Alex Dunkley for the last five months.

Mears won the 1st frame easily (87-12) with breaks of 31 and 38, Jennings looked in control of the 2nd frame leading by 39 points with one red left after a break of 44.
However Mears laid a snooker which resulted in a free ball then Jennings went in off the yellow to hand Mears another chance duly taken (68-54) for 2-0.

Jennings won a close 3rd frame (56-70) but Jennings under final losing pressure beckoning again fluffed a fairly difficult yellow and Mears applied the finish (70-39) a feature of Mears play was a strong safety game.

Mears beats leader Dunkley
Nine new players made their debut at the club Mears trouncing one them Daniel Parks 4-0 established Nathan Jones 4-2, Mears 52 break, Danny Douane 3-1, 62 break and lastly Alex Dunkley 3-2 surviving a fight back from 2-0 ahead.

Jennings reached his 5th final in his last 8 events at the club in both age groups by beating Luke Higginbotham 4-0, 46 break, Sameer Knight 4-1 efforts of 44,46 and 57, Matt Jelley 4-3. 40 break.

In the quarters Jennings made a break of 69 to beat Richard Binns 3-1 the Yorks player conceding 76 points in fouls during the 1st frame the same number embroidered in large letters on his shirt ? Binns made a 76 break in his last match !
Jennings led Lee Shanker 2-1 in the last four with a run of 73 winning 3-2 on the black when Shanker missed the pink losing by the same score in the April event.

Spooky rematches
The previous week Mears won the Rushden Under 19?s beating the same players in the last three rounds including Dunkley 3-2 after leading 2-0.

Kyren Wilson made the only ton of the day a 111 to go with efforts of 45,43,61,55 and 41 stopped in his tracks 3-0 by now highly rated Shanker with breaks of 54 and 69.

All Brummie plate final
Mitchell Mann defeated Callum Downing only 14 in all Birmingham plate final 2-1 with a 68 break to go with other breaks earlier of 86,48,43,81,48,67,61 and 80.

Ollie Tydeman upped his highest match break to 84 but still lost out 2-1 to Mann in the plate quarter finals in his first event.
Gene Lam also reached the plate last eight at the first attempt losing 2-1 to EASB finalist Tom Maxfield ? The Pastille Kid? losing by the same score in the semi?s to Downing who made breaks of 46 and 48.

Tom Pendlebury also a newcomer at Potters lost 3-0 in the quarters of the Main Event to Dunkley who made a break 97 to go with a 91 in the previous round.
