Nick Jennings took a big weight of his shoulders winning the opening event of the new Under 17 Series 2008, Willie Thorne Snooker, Leicester defeating Callum Downing in his first final in a reduced match 2-1.

Jennings who reached six finals last year in the two junior series at Potters and Willie Thorne?s
lost the first frame of the final (6-53) but comfortably wrapped up the next two frames to break the jinx in his mind.

He won the 2nd frame (76-4) and the 3rd in style (83-13) with a break of 59.

Only a disappointing 12 players attended the event on the first Saturday of the year after over 70 competed in total last term.

Well intended best of 7?s proved to be over long for the small field.

The winner opened with a 4-1 over Ashik Nathwani 64 break nearly let slip a 3-0 lead against Under 16 series winner Kyren Wilson to win 4-3, Wilson 51, Jennings 50 and 89.

And finally another 4-3 in the semi finals against Sam Harvey who pocketed his first match
century 102, Jennings 41,46 and 63.

Downing accounted for Luke McEvoy and Adam Bobat,11 both 4-3 the youngster led 3-1 in his first main semi finals.

McEvoy won the plate beating James Jelley 3-1.
