Gotham RBL 4-4 Pegasus C (22/03/11)

Gotham RBL secured the runners-up spot in division 3 at the expense of Pegasus C thanks to a hard fought draw.

At Pegasus
Steve Butler took on his good friend and former Stadium team-mate Matt Hearson-Ellis in what should have been a tight opening frame but a 42 break from Butler, which included a fluked blue, was more than enough to put Gotham 1-0 up.

Steve Burrows then took on Ross Wilkin, two players who are due to meet again in the Junior Handicap semi-finals very soon.  Burrows potted very well and had a fine 20+ break.  However Wilkin fought back well and had a chance to pinch the frame using the "fishing tackle" on the balck.  Unfortunately he rattled it and Burrows made no mistake as Gotham went 2-0 up.

The third frame saw Richard Burrows playing his first game for many weeks against Chris Mathers.  Burrows did not have much luck as he went in-off 2 or 3 times.  Mathers potted the final red to leave Burrows needing snookers and a short time later the players shook hands.

The pairs frame was between Steve Burrows / Butler and Hearson-Ellis / Wilkin.  Burrows got in first with an outstanding 20 break but Wilkin replied in style with an equally impressive 19.  Some of the pots in both breaks were awesome.  The Pegasus pair opened up a small lead but Gotham pulled it back to level pegging with blue, pink and black remaining.  Wilkin potted an excellent blue under pressure and obtained perfect position on the pink.  He slotted in the pink to take the frame and level the match at 2-2.

At Gotham
Steve Howard beat Steve Booth 66-32.
Nick Kirkman beat Andy Orange 88-30.
Dave Griffiths lost 31-61 to Eric Towle.
Howard / Kirkman lost 25-56 to Booth / Orange.

No doubt Stevie Howard will fill us all in on the details....

Well done team and hard luck Pegasus who ran us so close!

Well done Gotham, i think the final result is a perfect reflection of the 2 teams throughout the season, you were always just a bit ahead of us in quality and results. I'm glad we pushed as close as we did, punching above our weight many times I think!

well done to pego c and to gotham on finishing runners up. i would have like to watch a little more of your match but had problems of my own with Jamie giving me problems in my own match. Nevertheless it was a great atmospheric in pego with so many important matches going on all played in real good spirit.

I know i been in the wilderness for a while with regards to Local snooker, but it good to see the interest enthusiasm of everyone at all levels.

Cheers Bash.  That doubles match of yours was really exciting, especially as the news filtered through that Pegasus A were 3-0 up away and you needed about 3 snookers.  I took my eye off my own match a little when all that was going on!

Well played Gotham - cant believe it came down to frame difference in the end - just one more frame and we would have nicked it! Hope Ross doesnt have nightmares about that tricky black!

Sorry i didnt give you more of a game Steve - i was potting well in practice but it all went down the pan in the frame! Nice break though mate - shame you didnt clear the table.

Its also a shame that Gotham wont be in the league next season as it always good to have as many teams as possible from different clubs but good luck in the Monday night league.

Unlucky Pegasus C but overall a very good season. Goes to show the strength of Pegasus Snooker Club at the moment that we can put out 3 competitive teams. Bring on the 6 reds!!!

I didn't realise we are not in the league next season I thought we were!!!!

Steve is having problems with his internet connection so Ill put a brief report on from last nights matches at Gotham.

Frame1 Steve Howard v Steve Booth, Steve H started well but the frame became very scrappy and ultra close towards the the end with both players seemingly struggling to pot a ball eventually Steve H managed to edge over the line.

Frame 2 Nick Kirkman V Andy Orange both players getting off to bright starts but both players form dipped in the middle with both struggling to pot the easy ones eventually Nick potting crucial balls towards the end to seal the frame.

Frame 3 Dave Griffiths v Eric Towle, both got off to good starts but Eric started potting really well but only managing small breaks Dave kept with him until the end where Eric did the business to pull a frame back for Pegasus.

Frame 4 NIck/Steve v Andy/Steve a comical frame of snooker could have gone either way no breaks at all just a good laugh where Andy and Steve took it on the blue and pink.

An enjoyable evening a fair result on the night  :bravo: :welldone: :bravo: :bravo:
