As Mike LANGDON has pointed out we are likely to lose even more teams because they cannot raise the required 6 players. Surely this is the time to change to the 4 man format - clubs with pools of 8/9 players entering 1 team would surely be able to enter 2 teams in the NNIA format (I'm pretty sure Arnold would be able to field at least 2 teams).

Under the NBSA umbrella I would think both Leagues would only need a Secretary and a Treasurer.
League fixtures, collation of results, production of tables and any appeals could be dealt with by the committee of the NBSA. And, yes Bob, I would gladly oversee the running of the K.O. Competition.

Yes Alan. I see where you are coming from. But why would both leagues need a secretary and a treasurer. Yes a treasurer to collect the league fees and sort out the trophies. What would a secretary do if the NBSA did all the fixtures and league tables and collated the results?

If the NHSL go to a 4 man format, then you might as well call it the NBSA Monday and Tuesday night leagues.  Would both leagues benefit from this. I think not as some of the Monday night teams would look at it and say why are we playing both nights with the same format. The Tuesday night teams might think well we might as well play on a Monday if it's going to be the same format. Nobody wins! That's why i would like to see the NHSL with different format as now. Maybe not the one they have now, but not the same as the Monday one. Why not 5 man teams playing 1 frame each, or even 3 man teams playing 2 frames each. I tried to implement the later in the BDSL, but the teams didn't want it. They like the 4 man format. Another suggestion could be 4 man teams playing 4 singles and a doubles. No bonus point for winning or getting a higher aggregate score but a result. It's either 5-0, 4-1, or 3-2 wins that way.

I think some of the die-hards will not want to lose their identity so they could be called the NBSA Institutes 'Monday' League and the NBSA Nazareth House 'Tuesday' League but I think in time the "Nazareth House" charitable scenario will vanish (there is no longer a Naz' House). If it wasnt for 'Spiders' suggestion of playing '3 singles and a pairs' the Naz House could have folded a couple of years ago.
To keep family peace most of us elder generation only play snooker 1 night a week and make the choice of either Monday or Tuesday. Dont forget that in years gone by there was the Super League (Wednesdays) and Billiards on a Friday.
This brings me onto another point - with the joint ventures why couldnt we resurrect the Super League on a Wednesday evening calling it the NBSA Premier inviting teams from all Notts Postcodes - Newark, Worksop, Long Eaton etc with a stipulation that they must have at least 2 tables available and play the 4 man team format but each player playing 2 frames.

If you to invite all notts postcodes alot of people will drop out as its too far to go to newark ect even more so at 7.30 or 8.00pm Bob i cant make the meeting but will you suggest to play 4 singles and a doubles that way we wont need any aggregate scoring and all the teams could chose to use 4 or 6 man teams!

Hi Toby.
I was only suggesting a 'Premier' League in addition to the Monday/Tuesday night games so I cant see any teams dropping out. As regards distance, they, Newark, Worksop, Long Eaton, have the same problem.  If there's enough cash incentive they will travel.

I just think the Naz House need to reduce number of team members to keep the League going.

That's like trying to bring back a superleague type of league again isn't it Alan. All I say is bring back superleague. The only reason it dispanded was due to corn exchange winning it every year. But the fact is it was great to play players like Holty. Dave roe, Gary wilkinson .they had a great squad. But it was a great league. That I believe save Gibson used to run.

Alan Cunningham

Bring it on ! ! !.  But that of course will have to be discussed by the NBSA, at the moment we are trying to find out the 'way forward' for the Naz House - it would however be interesting to know how the members would feel at the A.G.M.

Thanks for all your contributions.  It certainly looks like the majority of people who have taken the time to contribute feel that a move to 4-man teams is necessary to sustain team numbers.

These are the teams I believe we will have for the new season if we persist with the current format:

Pegasus A
Pegasus B
BCI SE
BCI B (can you raise 6 players Toby?)
Arnold CD
Oakleigh Lodge
Mapperley
Cotgrave
City Hospital
Lenton A
Lenton B

That's it guys – 11 teams!

I have not had any approaches from prospective new teams this year.

I personally think the time has come to merge the NHSL and NNIA leagues.  I also like the idea of a Super League.  I think we should bring the team leagues into the NBSA to give the following set up:

NBSA Monday League
Format exactly the same as the current NNIA format.   All NHSL clubs/teams (who don't play in NNIA as well) encouraged to enter this league and play on Monday nights.

NBSA Tuesday Super League
Four man teams, each player playing two frames each. Teams must use 2 tables.

I am confident I would be able to attract sponsors for these two leagues.

I would be happy to run quarterly team charity tournaments at various clubs to ensure that we are still able to support charities and good causes.

The NBSA committee has the capacity to run these leagues no problem.  I would be perfectly happy to take care of the finances and the results/website.  I am sure Bob would be happy to sort the fixtures and cup draws like he does now.

Just my thoughts.

2 frames power player is the way forward, exactly what steve tried to do a few seasons back.

I agree with everything you say Steve. Yes i would be happy to do all the fixtures etc. The only problem i foresee is Oakleigh Lodge on a Tuesday using 2 tables.

The other thing i would want to discuss is league fees for both leagues. I do not know what the current fees are for the NHSL, but it's £30 per team in the NNIA. This is split into £25 to the league to pay for trophies, £2 per team to go to charity, £3 per team to the NBSA for contributions to the singles/doubles etc. I sure we could sort something out that would be beneficial to both leagues and the NBSA, and still keep the contributions to charity.

Hope to see everyone on Tuesday for the charity Shield match.

I would hope that Oakleigh Lodge would enter two teams on a Monday. I wouldn't expect them to play in the Super League on a Tuesday.

My idea does away with NNIA & NHSL.  There would just be a Monday league and a Super League which play on the same nights of the week as the current NNIA & NHSL leagues.

Regarding match fees, we would just need to set them at a level which would afford the buying of trophies.  If sponsors were forthcoming you could reduce the fees accordingly.  You wouldn't have to worry about the £3 levy to NBSA any more because the Monday league would be run by the NBSA anyway.  As for the charity element, I would prefer the quarterly charity tournament set up because it would be more structured. We could nominate the charity in advance of the tournament and all money raised from the event would be donated afterwards, similar to the charity shield.  We could even have someone from the charity present at the event to receive the donation and we could also invite a photographer from the paper.

I would prefer to have the NBSA Tuesday League with the 4 man team as the current NNIA which would accommodate the current Naz House teams - (for us minnows who cant compete at the higher level).
The NBSA SUPER League on a Wednesday with the 2 table availibilty criteria.

With reference to my above comment. I now find that at Arnold we would be in a bit of a dilemma - the club would not allow us to have 2 tables on a WEDNESDAY night so that would put a spanner in my thoughts.
So we would have to go back to the Tuesday situation - would we put 2 teams of 4 players on 2 tables (Super League) OR 2 teams of 4 players on 1 table NHSL, playing alternate weeks home and away.
The proposition of playing on a Monday has been discussed but no one seems interested.

You would then be giving teams a choice of whether to play on a Monday or a Tuesday.  That would be the only criteria for them to make their choice because the formats would be identical on both nights.  I could then see teams asking each other "which night are you playing on?" and we would end up with a situation where one night would have lots of teams and the other would have hardly any.  Who would want to play in a league with hardly any teams?  That's why I suggested that everyone plays on the same night, thus creating one big league with all the teams in it.

The Tuesday league would be a Super League for all the best players.  If you think there are players who will play on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday you are dreaming.  A lot of players are pushing it to play on 2 nights a week, me and Bob included!
