Jim Harrison captures the Spider Trophy
The Final
Played on Friday 20 February 2026 at Spot On Hucknall
Congratulations to Jim Harrison on winning the Spider Trophy, defeating Chris Winter 3-2 in a very hard fought final that went down to the last 3 balls.
Frame 1
A cagey opener with some excellent safety from both players. Chris edging in front with a few mini breaks and was 20 ahead before he allowed Jim into the frame. Jim then took control and won the frame to go one up. Frame Score 62-33.
Frame 2
Jim gained confidence from the first frame victory and now started to let his arm go. A quick fire 30 break made him favourite in frame 2. Not to be outdone Chris hung in there and a 32 break ensured it was honours even at 1 all. Frame Score 38-65.
Frame 3
Chris was now looking like the favourite and he went ahead early on. Jim is the reigning Notts Amateur champion and he showed why with a 33 break followed by a 22, taking frame 3 to move 1 away from the title. Frame Score 60-20.
Frame 4
Jim was looking to wrap the title up but made a few uncharacteristic mistakes and Chris took full advantage. A 30 break sealed this one and took us to a decider for the Trophy. Frame Score 34-57.
Frame 5
The decider was a tense affair that ebbed and flowed between the players, it was anyone’s match but who wanted it the most?
Chris went 22 in front and had the opportunity to really extend his lead but missed. Back came Jim and eased into a 14 point lead with 18 remaining. Chris had a great chance with a tricky blue to the middle and the other balls at his mercy. It wasn’t to be as it rattled against the jaw and left Jim with an easy match ball. Frame Score 66-39.
Congratulations to both players on a great final. There was some excellent sportsmanship as well as Jim called a foul on himself that the ref didn’t see.
Many thanks to Spot On Hucknall for the use of their facilities and also to Anthony Hamilton for the use of his Star table.
Also a huge thanks to Wayne Martin for refereeing the final, taking the photograph of the finalists and compiling the match report.
