Jim Harrison wins the Alan Cunningham Trophy

The Final

Played on Sunday 2 August 2026 at Spot On Hucknall

Congratulations to Jim Harrison who defeated Patrick Ashurst 3-2 in an excellent final on Sunday evening. Both finalists cued very well and the table was playing beautifully.

Frame 1
Patrick was in first with a knock of 12. Jim also had a break of 12 a short time later. Patrick made a series of small breaks before Jim was in again with a 22 break. Patrick potted the last red, followed by blue and yellow, which meant that Jim required a snooker (26 behind with 25 left on the table). Jim laid a snooker but Patrick not only escaped and hit the green, but he also fluked a pot and Jim conceded. Patrick leading the match 1-0.

Frame 2
Jim took an early lead thanks to a couple of low scoring visits. It was nip and tuck for a while before Jim made a nice 29 break as he started to cue very well. Jim was now leading by 33 points with one red remaining. Patrick potted the red but missed the black so he now needed snookers. Patrick got one snooker from which Jim failed to escape but Patrick still trailed by 28 points with 27 remaining. Patrick continued to play some good snookers but Jim managed to escape from them all. Jim then potted a terrific long yellow to lead by 30 points. A short time later Jim doubled the yellow and Patrick conceded. Match level at 1-1.

Frame 3
Jim made a very nice 41 break to open up a 28 point gap. Patrick twitched on a red to leave Jim in the balls again and a break of 11 followed. Patrick replied with a run of 13 but he still trailed by 27 with one red left. Jim potted the red, plus a brown and the yellow, forcing the concession. Jim now leading 2-1 and requiring one frame for victory.

Frame 4
Jim was playing with confidence now and he steadily opened up an 18 point lead. He fluked a red, potted a terrific long brown, but then missed the next red. This presented Patrick with a good opportunity to make a sizeable break, but he could only muster a run of 11. A loose safety from Jim left Patrick in again and this time he was far more clinical, making a 25 break to win the frame and force a decider.

Frame 5
It was an understandably cagey start by both players before Patrick sprung into life making a good 35 break. A terrific long red from Jim led to a break of 21 which reduced his deficit to just 2 points with one red left on the table. A loose safety from Patrick presented Jim with an excellent chance to close out the match and he took it superbly making a 27 break. Jim wins 3-2.
