Hopkin shows his class to win Bulwell Open

Bulwell Open 7

Congratulations to Sean Hopkin who defeated Nav Hussain 3-1 in the final.

Hussain didn’t drop a frame in the group stages and Hopkin only dropped one frame.  Hopkin had an impressive run to the final beating January winner Bash Maqsood and then the December winner Tom Kerslake.  Hussain beat Troy Brett and Jason Green en-route to the final and he also knocked in the highest break of the day, 67.

In the final Hussain broke down on 31 in frame one and Hopkin punished him with a run of 47 to take a 1-0 lead.  Hopkin then won the next but Hussain took the third to make it 2-1.  A fine run of 51 by Hopkin in the fourth frame proved enough to secure the match 3-1.  Hussain took home £50 for finishing runner-up plus £10 for making the highest grade 1 break.

Alfie Palumbo again won the grade 1 plate final, beating Tom Goldstein 2-1.  It was another terrific performance from Palumbo, particularly his 2-1 defeat of in-form Wayne Martin in the semi-final.

Sean Croft beat Toby Bowley in the grade 2 plate final.  Bowley defeated the dangerous debutant Brendon Sweeney in the semi-final and Croft beat Paul Slack and last months grade 2 plate runner-up Shaun Parkinson.  Croft took home £20 and Malc Belshaw took home £10 for making the highest grade 2 break of 50.

The grade 3 plate final saw last month’s winner Steve Burrows brushed aside by on-fire Ross Wilkin.  We saw some terrific potting from Wilkin, including a match-winning blue down the cushion.  Wilkin took home £20 and Burrows had the consolation of £10 for his break of 32, the highest in grade 3.
