Fourteen trophies awarded to Challenge Tournament winners and runners-up

Once the 2021/22 Challenge Ladder had ended, I gave all competitors the option of entering a Challenge Tournament. Each tournament included up to eight players and was based on their finishing positions on the Ladder, as follows:

  • Challenge Cup (Gold Edition) – players finishing in positions 1-8
  • Challenge Cup (Silver Edition) – players finishing in positions 9-16
  • Challenge Cup (Bronze Edition) – players finishing in positions 17-24
  • Challenge Shield (Gold Edition) – players finishing in positions 25-32
  • Challenge Shield (Silver Edition) – players finishing in positions 33-40
  • Challenge Shield (Bronze Edition) – players finishing in positions 41-51 (excluding 3 players who were inactive throughout February 2022)
  • Challenge Plate – players finishing in positions 52-53

The quarter-final and semi-final matches were drawn at random.

In each match, the player who finished highest on the Ladder received home advantage.

The winner and runner-up in each tournament receive a trophy and the winner also received a £50 cash prize, except in the Challenge Plate where the winner received £20 due to there being only two entrants.

The results from each tournament are shown below.

Next Season

Although successful, these tournaments were a one-off and it is very unlikely that they will be run again next season or in any future seasons. This is because more VAR tournaments are being planned for future seasons and funds will be required to purchase trophies and provide prize money in those tournaments.
