Notts & Amber Valley in second place after weekend one of ENCSC
It was a mixed start for Notts & Amber Valley during weekend one of the ENCSC at the superb Landywood Snooker Club in Walsall.
This was always going to be a tough group with opponents including last season’s champions Lincolnshire A and local rivals Leicestershire B. But Stuart Wheatley’s team got off to a good start with a win against Somerset A.
The defeat to Lincolnshire A was expected, but the team managed to win 10 frames, a few more than Leicestershire B managed to take off the defending champions!
The final match against Leicestershire B on day two was always going to be close and it lived up to expectations as Tony Morgan found himself playing the final frame of the weekend needing to win it for the match to be drawn. But his opponent S Ahmed potted two terrific balls at the end to win the frame on the pink and secure the narrowest of victories for Leicestershire B.
The highest break trophy was awarded to Lennard Cripps who made a lovely 88 break.
The most valuable player trophy was presented to Ben Green who was solid all weekend and could easily have won a few more frames.
Stuart’s team will head into weekend two in March full of confidence.
