Troy Brett defeats Nav Hussain to win Hucknall Open

Hucknall Open 4
A reduced field of eight players ignored the sunny weather outside and instead opted to spend a few hours competing for the Hucknall Open title at Spot On Snooker Club. A round robin format was used which provided every competitor with at least 3 matches. The top two players in each group progressed to the semi-finals.
Group A
Troy Brett (Nottingham) won all three of his group matches, topping the group and only dropping one frame in the process. Dave Jobling (Newark) was the other qualifier, winning two of his three matches. He also made the tournament’s highest break of 95 and took home £5 cash as a reward. James Robinson (Bestwood) was appearing in his first Hucknall Open and he had a good win against Cary Davies (Mapperley) which secured him third place in the group.
Group B
Nav Hussain (West Bridgford) topped group B with Wayne Martin (Hucknall) finishing in 2nd place. Steve Butler (Nottingham) managed a win against Ben Cooper (Hucknall) after a slow start, but the match was inconsequential as neither player could qualify at that point.
Knockout Stage
Semi-finals
Troy Brett 2-0 Wayne Martin
Brett proved too strong for Martin who had not played particularly well throughout the tournament.
Nav Hussain 2-1 Dave Jobling
This was a close match with both players cueing well but Hussain eventually came out on top to set up a final against Brett.
Final £40 / £20
Troy Brett 2-0 Nav Hussain
These two players competed in the final of the last Hucknall Open and Hussain was victorious on that occasion. Revenge was sweet for Brett this time though, neither player playing particularly well, the highest break just 38 from Brett. But it’s the result that matters and Brett will be pleased with his victory, a nice clearance sealing the second frame on the black.
