September on the Ladder
The second full season of the Challenge Ladder commenced on 1 September 2022 with 58 players taking part, which is 5 more than at the end of the 2021/22 season. During September a further 8 players signed up, bringing the total number of competitors to a very healthy 66.
We only have 1 player in the 0-18 age group. A further 3 players are needed in this age group to activate the age group bonus.
The 19-29 age group has 6 players, which is disappointingly low and I think this highlights that fewer young players have taken up snooker in recent years.
The 30-39 age group is the largest, with 32 players falling into this category. There are 15 players in the 40-49 age group and 13 in the 50-59 age group.
The 60+ age group annoyingly has 3 players in it. Just one more player is needed to activate the age group bonus. If you know of anybody, please encourage them to sign up.
Four clubs have activated their Club Bonus schemes:
- Alfreton Snooker Club (4 players)
- Stapleford Cue Club (7 players)
- Spot On Hucknall (16 players)
- Spot On Sneinton (16 players)
If you are playing from any other club, your Club Bonus scheme cannot be activated until 4 or more players are playing from your club. Encourage your fellow club members to sign up if you want to the chance to win some extra prize money.
There were 64 matches played during September which is the highest number of matches played in any month to date, beating the previous record of 60 in January 2022.
Challengers did marginally better than Defenders during September, with Challengers winning 36 matches and Defenders winning 28. This is to be expected at the start of the season as there are quite a few strong players at the bottom end of the Ladder who are steadily winning matches and climbing.
The average number of days between challenges being made and matches being played (lead time average) was just 6 which is very good.
