Steve Capewell stars in Phoenix win

Phoenix Cue Sports had a great win against league rivals Welcome Institute, enabling them to swap places in the table. Steffan Swann had a great draw against the in-form Tony Morgan, the latter having a break of 61 in the first frame. Keith Waterhouse and Vinnie Dennis also fought out a very closely contested draw. Sam Burton and Martin Conway also drew in another nailbiter, leaving it down to Steve Capewell (pictured) and Welcome El Capitan Rick Else to see if they could break the deadlock. Again, it was Capewell coming away with the victory and making a 49 break in turning this tie in favour of Phoenix.

It looks like these two sides will contest 3^rd and 4^th place – who’s going to pinch it?

BCI B overcame BCI Masters in the Bulwell derby, winning by 5 frames to 3 in a tightly contested match. Steve Purser and Allen Shaw sharing the spoils in the first match before Shaun Kilkie then inflicted the damage for BCI B with a solid 2 nil win against Bryan Robinson. Paul Wainwright Jnr and Snr then completed the win by drawing both their matches against Ashley Field and Josh Morley respectively. This takes BCI B off the bottom of the table and above Arnold Civil Defence on 6 points.

The Towers continued with their solid away form by defeating Spot On Reds by 6 frames to 2. Towers captain Dan Moll made a 47 break in his draw with Matt Coates. Andrew Diacopoulos made a 52 break in his 2 nil win against Reds captain Robert Garratt. Lee Bradshaw won both his frames against the Reds duo of Mick Garratt and Manfred Corbin. Finally, Bob Gould drew 1-1 against Reds players Cary Davies and Manfred Corbin.

Next week is the crunch match for The Towers as they host league leaders Spot On Hucknall at home. They will no doubt be up for this match.

Final match of the night saw Spot On Hucknall winning a tightly contested match against Arnold Civil Defence 6-2. The scoreline quite flattering as it was 2-2 early on in the evening and could easily have gone the other way for Arnold. Patrick Ashurst and James Notman sharing the spoils in the opening match. Joe Reynolds again looked like he was on fire, making breaks of 53 and 33 in the first frame. Chris Eyre had other ideas and punished Joe in the second frame to even things up halfway through. Darryl Clarke and Wayne Martin managed wins against James Kelly but this could easily have been 2 nil to Kelly. The young Arnold player has really improved and potted some tremendous balls, just missing the odd key ball when it mattered. Kelly will be one to watch over the coming seasons. Finally, Ben Cooper played some solid match play in his defeat of Peter Ogburn, winning by 2 frames to nil on the night and cementing a fortunate win for the league leaders.

This loss and BCI B winning sees Arnold Civil Defence drop back to the foot of the table.
