Spot On Hucknall win the Knockout Cup
Monday Team League
Spot On Hucknall overcame a very dogged Lenton Liberal Club by 3 frames to 1 to lift the 2022/23 Monday Knockout Cup Trophy.
This promised to be a great final between the top two teams in the league and it didn’t disappoint.
Dale Prime 19 v 65 Ben Cooper
Cooper establishing a solid lead and forcing errors from Prime in a great match play contest. Prime never gives up and he fought to the end in a great opening encounter. However it was Cooper putting
Hucknall 1 nil up.
Phil Connolly 34 v 83 Wayne Martin
Martin got on top early in this one and with the help of a good 38 break in establishing an early lead. Recent European Pool championship runner-up Connolly is a feisty character though and fought all the way. Martin being fortunate towards the end with the run of the balls and managing to hold off Connolly for victory.
2 nil to Hucknall.
Tom Laycock & Dale Prime 89 v 73 Ben Cooper & Patrick Ashurst
Lenton started to turn things around in this scotch pairs frame. Hucknall getting 25 in front to begin with but some brilliant tactical play from the Lenton pairing ensuring that they reduced the lead and then got in front by the colours. This frame got very tactical and Lenton didn’t flinch and took the frame with an excellent long pink to win the frame.
2-1 Hucknall
Tom Laycock 42 v 76 Patrick Ashurst
This was a tight frame and could have gone either way. Both players making small contributions but not being able to pull away. However, it was Ashurst who managed to make the most of his opportunities and pulled away to take the frame and match for Hucknall.
3-1 Hucknall.
A really great final to could have gone either way. Played in great spirits by two great teams.
Congratulations to Lenton in their maiden season, you have a great team who put up a great battle and also won the league title.
Well done to Spot On Hucknall on their victory and competitiveness this season.
Finally, many thanks to Pete and Carol at BCI Snooker Centre for providing the match table and arena all evening for the final. It really is a fantastic venue for finals.
