Tough at the Top
Monday Team League (Summer 2023)
Bulwell Church Institute’s “AJ” side continue to set the pace at the top of the nottinghamsnooker.com team league table, despite suffering defeat this week at the hands of stablemates BCI ‘B’. Mark Morrisey was the standout performer, a victory each on singles and pairs helping his side to a 3-2 win in the Vere Street derby.
Mansfield’s Towers are the form team of the last month, however, winning eighteen of their last twenty frames as they close the gap at the summit of the standings to just three points. Lea Bradshaw, Andy Diacopoulos and Dan Moll produced a second whitewash in as many weeks, but special mention must go to Diacopoulos whose 64 in the first frame means he is now the owner of six of the Summer 2023 season’s highest breaks.
Andy Wain and captain, Don Merry, shared the workload as The Venue (Rainworth) recorded a shutout of their own at Lenton Liberal Club. The reigning champions drop to the bottom third of the league table while the Rainworth side climb to third place, having won all four of their matches since being defeated by Towers five weeks ago.
The final game of the week saw Spot On Hucknall triumph 4-1 away to Academy ‘A’ in Sneinton. Singles-frame victories for Wayne Martin opened and closed the show for the Vine Terrace-based side, as they climb back to fourth spot in the league table with a game in hand on all of the teams above them. An effort of 43 provided a seventh entry of the season onto the high-break board for Martin, but no-one except Lenton’s Dale Prime has got within 40 points of the 99 clearance made during the first round of matches by Andy Diacopoulos. Academy Reds were on the bye this week but hang on to fifth place in the league table, also having a game in hand.
