Patrick Protects Hucknall Henhouse
Monday Team League (Summer 2023)
Spot On Hucknall decreased their deficit to the top of the nottinghamsnooker.com team league table to just four points with a ruthless rout of the visiting Lenton Liberal Club.
Wayne Martin set the Vine Terrace side off on the right track with a 30 break against Jon Shapland, the Linby man eventually triumphing when Shapland “fluked” the pink in search of an elusive snooker. Patrick Ashurst meanwhile inserted himself at number four on the Summer 2023 season’s high-break board with a run of 56 against Wilford’s Phil Connolly.
In a rush to get home and round up his chickens before dark, Ashurst continued in the pairs frame from where he had left off on singles as the match was ended as a contest with two frames to spare. Patrick would this time share a break of 50 with Darryl Clarke, their effort second amongst pairs compilations only to Clarke’s 54 with Ben Cooper two months prior. Another 30+ break, Wayne Martin’s league-leading fifth of the season, together with a black-ball frame from Darryl Clarke completed the whitewash.
The match between Academy ‘A’ and The Venue is to be rearranged for a later date, while BCI ‘B’ were on the bye this week. In a match rearranged from 5 June, Lenton Liberal Club recorded a 4-1 home win against Academy ‘A’.
Dale Prime won two out of two on singles, while Jon Shapland was successful in his singles and on pairs duty. Lenton temporarily climbed to second place but now drop to third in the league table, ahead of BCI B on head-to-head, but having played a game more than all of the teams around them.
Bulwell Church Institute’s “AJ” side continue to set the pace, four points ahead of Spot On Hucknall after a 3-2 away victory at Mansfield’s Towers. Twelve-year old Jacob Reynolds again starred for BCI AJ, winning both singles frames and on pairs with team captain, Ashley Field.
Though it ultimately proved only a consolation point in the context of the match, a 67 from Andy Diacopoulos meant that the Enfield Exocet now owns two of the top three breaks of the campaign. Diacopoulos’ 99 clearance on the opening night still leads the way for the Summer 2023 season.
Towers fall a place to fifth in the league table, but the Botany Avenue-based side travel to Spot On Hucknall in what is undoubtedly the tie of the round as the season reaches its halfway point next week. Academy Reds were also 5-0 winners this week on the road at Carlton & District Liberal Club. Cary Davies and Manfred Corbin picked up two singles apiece and combined for the pairs frame. The Burton Road team’s Koen Hughes pushed Corbin all the way, but the Reds man maintains his 100% singles record for the season.
