And the NEW champion… is AJ!
Monday Team League (Summer 2023)
No, we’re not talking about heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua embarking upon a third world-title reign, but Bulwell Church Institute’s “AJ” team being crowned nottinghamsnooker.com team league champions!
The Vere Street side finished a whitewash’s worth of points clear of their nearest rivals and become the fourth different winner in four competitions since Wayne Martin’s reboot of Nottingham team snooker a year ago.
BCI AJ’s team consisted of Tony Collins, team captain Ashley Field, Josh Morley and Jacob Reynolds. Of all those to have played at least five frames of singles in the Summer 2023 season, worthy of particular note was twelve-year old Reynolds’ league-leading win average of above 90% while also winning the league’s handicap knockout singles competition.
Spot On Hucknall made it three out of three league runner-up spots, a single point clear of Paul Wainwright Snr’s BCI ‘B’ team.
Andrew Diacopoulos’ 99 clearance on opening night stood for the entire season as the highest break of the campaign. A run of 76 from Lenton Liberal Club’s Dale Prime before departing to work in Cambodia for two years was good enough for second place, while efforts of 71 apiece saw third shared by Craig Bishop (also of Lenton Liberal Club) and Diacopoulos.
All in all “Enfield Exocet” Diacopoulos made a total of eleven 30+ breaks during the Summer 2023 season, including a remarkable five of the top seven compilations. Linby potter Wayne Martin was only just behind on ten contributions, a 55 clearance being his highest. Dan Moll (Towers) had five 30+ efforts, with a “Brighton Line” top score of 59.
Atop the pairs high breaks Spot On Hucknall’s Darryl Clarke shared runs of 54 and 50 with team-mates Ben Cooper and Patrick Ashurst, respectively, while Lea Bradshaw & Dan Moll combined for a 44. Considering pairs frames are conducted with the team-mates playing alternate shots, these are seriously impressive efforts!
There’s still time to enter the nottinghamsnooker.com team leagues for the Winter 2023-2024 season – but you’ll need to be quick as entries close tomorrow! All the details, plus links to pay your team’s entry fee, can be found HERE.
