The Final
Played on Saturday 18 April 2026 at Spot On Hucknall
Congratulations to Wayne Martin on winning The Gibson Trophy. Wayne defeated Andy Diacopolous 4-3 in a high quality final that went down to the wire.
Here is a match report courtesy of Wayne:
Frame 1
Andy off to a flying start, a break of 34 getting him into a frame winning position. Wayne making a consolation break of 34.
Andy 65-44 Wayne
Frame 2
Very much like the first frame, Andy dominating with another 30 plus break and moving 2-0 ahead. This match could be over very quickly.
Andy 62-43 Wayne
Frame 3
Again, Andy getting in front early before a miss gave Wayne the opportunity he has been waiting for. A 64 clearance followed and Wayne was on the scoreboard.
Wayne 66-11 Andy
Frame 4
It was all Andy again, a classy 42 break taking him one away from the title.
Andy 74-13 Wayne
Frame 5
Wayne making a fight of this frame before making a break of 62 and pulling a frame back.
Wayne 76-44 Andy
Frame 6
This looked like the match winning frame for Andy as he made another lovely 34 break. Wayne fought hard and managed to pinch the frame with mini breaks of 28 and 23. Suddenly we have a decider on our hands.
Frame 7
This was anyone’s match and it looked like Wayne had a good first opportunity, he made 28 before missing a red to the middle. Andy hit back with a fantastic 47 break to go well in front with 3 reds left on. Wayne managed to get within 20 points with some solid safety and a fortunate snooker. A fortunate fluke on the last red enabled Wayne to pull closer. A loose safety from Andy allowed Wayne to pot a long green and then clear the table to win frame and match 4-3.
Wayne 63-61 Andy
A great final with both players in good form.
